Atemag’s team of aggregate specialists designs and manufactures high-performance aggregates and angle heads tailored for precision machining of wood, composites, aluminium and plastics on CNC machining centers and robots. These handcrafted aggregates offer versatile material machining capabilities at a variety of angles and axes. Both standard and custom-made aggregates are used, depending on specific machining requirements.
ATEMAG was founded in 2004 with the goal of meeting the needs of the woodworking sector and providing products of unparalleled quality combined with exceptional customer service.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
ATEMAG: Due to the handcrafted production, ATEMAG is able to provide its customers with customized solutions of highest quality already from a quantity of one piece – and with the stamp “#madeingermany”.
The cooperation of our development and design team extends from the project idea to the final product in close coordination with the customer and his partners. In this way, unmistakable, tailor-made products are created, even for individual parts.
Customized aggregates are an essential part of our core business, so our aggregate specialists can often design concrete implementation strategies during the initial consultation. ATEMAG is present in a wide range of industries and offers innovative solutions for the implementation of complex processes.
E.E:What’s the news about new products?
ATEMAG: The ATEMAG guiding principle “Where needs find solutions” is deeply rooted in the hearts of the Black Forest engineers and is pursued by them with passion. This commitment drives our specialists to pioneering innovations time and again, including again at Ligna 2023, the last major wood trade fair in Germany.
– New to ATEMAG’s offering is a complementary dowel insertion unit that seamlessly expands the possibilities of automated dowel insertion in Holz-Her machines. While the dowel driving unit already established in the market is integrated as a stand-alone unit in Holz-Her’s EVOLUTION 7405 PinJet CNC machining center, the “new” dowel driving unit is tailored to the machine manufacturer’s new PowerPin 7605 dowel and drilling machine. The dowel driving unit offers two innovative features: adjustable dowel entry depths and protrusions, and the ability to handle a wide range of dowel sizes.
– Improvements have been made to the label printer unit, which is used to automatically apply adhesive labels to processed panels. The focus of these improvements is to increase the printing speed, strengthen the power supply and improve the ease of use for operators.
– In cooperation with the German company EM Systeme, ATEMAG’s specialists have developed the ultrasonic cutting unit that allows the precise cutting with ultrasonic for special material.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
ATEMAG: ATEMAG’s CNC units are used in a wide range of industries, with a particularly strong presence in woodworking. For many years, they have helped optimize production lines and enable cost-efficient manufacturing. These versatile units play an important role in various sectors, such as staircase construction, interior design, furniture manufacturing, trade show architecture, retail space furnishings, and the production of doors, windows, and kitchens.
In addition, the use of CNC aggregates is increasingly extended to the field of lightweight materials and actively improves production processes. This development is extending its influence to key sectors such as automotive, aerospace and rail vehicle manufacturing, where CNC aggregates seamlessly optimize production lines to meet demanding industry standards.
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
ATEMAG: The extent of market segmentation determines the level of detail you pursue. Our main focus is on wood processing, where we are currently seeing a slight decline in the furniture market. Staircase and window production, on the other hand, are showing a flourishing market. After a two-year phase characterized by subdued activity in the composites market, we have now been experiencing a rapid recovery for six months.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
ATEMAG: We meet many customers who are looking for higher productivity with a clear focus on minimizing manual labor. Our floating aggregates serve the purpose of achieving a uniform and precisely defined radius on stairs, even with irregular clamping and thickness variations. The use of the SOFT GRINDER SMART LINE helps to eliminate the need for manual finishing by grinding. There has also been a significant increase in demand for multi-spindle heads. This increase is possibly due to the fact that the furniture industry is moving from single-color surfaces to directional surfaces, which makes a dedicated multi-spindle head particularly efficient on flat table machines.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
ATEMAG: From our point of view, any improvement that extends the machine’s capabilities and reduces manual intervention is highly valued. An excellent example of this principle is our label printer aggregate, which offers the possibility to print and apply labels to workpieces in the machine. This aggregate can be conveniently housed in the tool holder and, in conjunction with a built-in battery, provides the necessary electrical power for a thermal printer.
In addition, we have developed an Ultrasonic cutting unit that is equipped with a battery and enables the cutting of soft materials. This aggregate can be easily installed, even on existing machines. At the Ligna 2023 trade show, we presented the prototype of our SOFT TOUCH PRO FUNCTION LINE, which allows Clamex P profile grooves to be milled in precise alignment with the panel edge. The unit has been in practical use since this year and we also see great potential in the kitchen industry.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?
ATEMAG: Our understanding is that a shift is taking place in the market. Business opportunities will arise, although unevenly distributed. The faster companies will secure a share of the business. Emphasis on partnerships and fostering transparent communication will take on greater importance. Maintaining prevailing delivery schedules will no longer meet customer expectations and will require careful attention to internal processes, procurement, cost analysis and sales strategies. At ATEMAG, we are prepared for a promising future by consistently putting customer requirements first.
