Interview with Martin Kellner, Regional Sales Manager at FAULHABER Austria GmbH.
A brief description of the company and its activities.
Martin Kellner: FAULHABER has been developing and producing miniature and microdrives for a wide range of applications since 1947. Our extensive portfolio offers drive solutions that set standards in precision and reliability. Innovation, quality and consistency are our top priorities – values that our customers and partners can rely on. With locations in Germany, Switzerland, the USA, Romania and Hungary as well as sales and subsidiary companies in over 30 countries, we offer the world’s largest range of miniature and micro drive systems from a single source. FAULHABER currently employs around 2,300 people.
What are the main areas of activity of the company?
M.K: FAULHABER offers a wide range of drive systems – from powerful DC motors with 200 mNm continuous torque to the finest micro drive systems with an outer diameter of just 1.9 mm. These can be combined with precise gearheads, encoders, linear components and controllers. We therefore offer the most comprehensive portfolio of innovative miniature and microdrive systems, which is unique in terms of precision and reliability. We also assist our customers with software solutions and support. Our systems are in demand in many areas: from robotics and automation to aerospace, medical and laboratory technology as well as optical systems.
What’s the news about new products/services?
M.K: A real highlight from this year is our new integrated motion controller. The BX4 IMC is integrated into our powerful brushless motors of the BX4 family and impresses with its wide range of functions and impressive performance. It is available in two lengths, both with an excellent volume to performance ratio and very dynamic control. This makes the BX4 IMC extremely versatile – for example in medical and laboratory technology, automation, robotics or special industrial applications. Our customers can also look forward to further new products that we will be launching on the market in November – so it remains exciting!
What are the ranges of products/services?
M.K: We are driven by the desire to set the world’s most demanding application areas in motion and drive them forward. We want to have a positive influence on the developments of the future. This is made possible by the huge selection of FAULHABER standard and individual products as well as individual complete solutions, which our customers receive tailor-made and from a single source. This is also reflected in our motto: We create motion.
What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
M.K: Our market is just as diverse as our product portfolio. We are represented in various sectors – from laboratory automation and robotics to optical applications and many other segments. The increasing demand for precise and reliable drive solutions in these markets is a clear trend that we are observing. Thanks to our many years of experience and comprehensive expertise, we can react quickly to new requirements and offer innovative solutions that are perfectly tailored to the respective applications.
What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
M.K: It is difficult to say, as every market and every customer has its own preferences. But one thing is certain: as the market leader in the field of high-performance miniature and micro drive systems, innovation has a particularly high priority at FAULHABER. This is particularly evident in our developments and projects, for example in the field of medical technology, where we have already been successfully involved. New ideas and sustainable solutions are crucial for us and are actively promoted. Another major advantage of our production is that we can manufacture from a quantity of 1 – this gives us maximum flexibility and customer proximity.
What estimations do you have for the rest of 2024?
M.K: Even though the industry often talks about topics such as digitalization, AI, digital twin or machine learning, reliable hardware remains the basis. Our customers continue to consistently pursue their goal of developing and manufacturing technologically advanced and valuable products – regardless of the crises of recent years. Well-functioning supply chains and close partnerships remain our recipe for success and put us in a good starting position for 2025.
