BIOVOIMA – POWER UP WITH GREEN ENERGY

Biovoima is a biogas and biomethane technology producer and provider, and a turnkey contractor for biogas and biomethane plants and related maintenance and operation services.

Interview with Mikko Ronkainen, Marketing Director & Jani Kangasaho, Sales Director, Partner at Biovoima.

What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Mikko Ronkainen & Jani Kangasaho:

  • Production, logistics and utilization technology of biomethane
  • Biogas and biomethane plants as turnkey projects, new plants and upgrading existing plants.
  • Maintenance and operation services for the plants and technology

What’s the news about new products/services?

M.R & J.K: Biogas upgrading unit, BIOupgrade which is a cost-efficient membrane-based solution is facing a great demand in our market areas.

Also, further-processing of biomethane towards liquefaction and CO2 liquefaction as a separated process of the gas purification for industrial utilization is increasing their demand and growing the business opportunities on the field of biogas production.

What are the ranges of products/services?

M.R & J.K: Biovoima´s main market area is Northern Europe, such as Finland, Norway, Baltic Countries and Poland, but we are willing to expand soon in other European countries.

What is the state of the market where you are currently active?

M.R & J.K: In our main market in Finland, Norway, Baltic Countries and Poland, the market is facing a great demand regarding biogas and biomethane production. Still, there are some challenges slowing down the investment decision making process, for example low biomethane market price due to political uncertainty in Europe, as well as quite slow decision process on public support funding. These are also slowing down reaching the green energy transition goals, which European Union has.

What can you tell us about market trends?

M.R & J.K: The field of biogas is rapidly moving from using raw biogas as a source of heat and power for households and industry, towards processing the biogas further, upgrading it to biomethane, and liquefied biomethane. Also, the side products from the gas purification process, such as liquefied CO2, and the use of biomethane process for hydrogen production is gaining rousing interest due to less needed process energy.

What are the most innovative products/services marketed?

M.R & J.K: Up to 99% biomethane, which is similar to natural gas, as well its liquefied gas.
Innovations are now searched and developed towards CO2 liquefaction, which is another opportunity both from environmental and business perspective.

What estimations do you have for the second half of 2025?

M.R & J.K: We expect several openings in the new but active markets (countries), such as Poland and as well as strengthening our position in the existing market in Baltics and Nordics. Overall, our estimation is to double our turnover from last year.
