Price: tell us something about the costs from a ROI perspective?
Michael Palmanshofer: When planning a new system or factory, it is important to analyze the entire product range and the customer’s working environment in order to tailor the systems and software precisely to the customer’s needs, but also to design them to be open to future changes in the market. The robustness and durability of LiSEC’s machines always lead to a reduction in operating and maintenance costs. In addition, the automation of processes increases productivity and reduces labour-costs.
If market demand changes, machines can also be easily and flexibly adapted to a wide range of products.
What about the costs for maintenance / future upgrades etc.
P.M: It speaks in our favour that customers use LiSEC machines, some of which are already 30 years old and yet still perform reliably and generate money. Thanks to sophisticated machine design, the use of only high-quality components and a global service network, maintenance costs can be well calculated and kept to a minimum.
Electrical components have a shorter lifetime than the solid basic mechanical construction of LiSEC machines. By replacing obsolete components and adding new, up-to-date technological developments, existing systems can be brought back up to date. The LiSEC LONGLIFE department specializes in these cases and offers the possibility of significantly extending the lifetime of LiSEC systems through suitable upgrades.

Are there any “buy-back”, upgrades or other opportunities available?
M.P: Sustainability is an essential part of our strategy. LiSEC offers options for sustainably extending the service life of products with PC upgrades or updates to machines to bring them up to the latest technical standard.
Our philosophy also includes the utilisation of used machines to meet customer needs, as well as their repurchase and recycling to support a new machine business.
What purchasing advice do you have for clients in your fields of activity?
M.P: When customers are planning an investment in a factory or plant for flat glass processing:
Look for manufacturers with a high level of planning expertise. A good planner not only considers the spatial design, but also aspects such as logistics, efficiency, automation, performance, ergonomics, energy efficiency, sustainability, growth, etc.
Take your time and thoroughly determine your core business and what/how much of it you want to produce or outsource.
Ask the manufacturers to show you existing plants and talk to their operators.
Valid price comparisons are difficult in our industry. Always consider the risks of different providers and pay particular attention to service and quality.
Last but not least – Don’t lose sight of the bigger picture. Break it down into parts. Write down the goal and record it in the contract with the suppliers.
