Interview with Dr. Joachim Lapsien, Head of Product Marketing at CETA.
A brief description of the company and its activities.
Joachim Lapsien: CETA is a German manufacturer of physical test devices “Made in Germany” for industrial leak testing and flow measurement in production lines. With a range of test device technologies and a wide spectrum of pressure and measurement ranges, almost any testing requirement can be met. Customers from the automotive industry, medical technology, heating and air conditioning technology, energy industry, fittings and household appliances industry, packaging industry, and e-mobility use CETA test devices for quality control and production assurance.
CETA is ISO 9001 certified. The calibration laboratory, accredited by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS), is approved for the measurands pressure and flow of gases in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.
CETA test devices are known for their high product quality, and CETA supports its customers with comprehensive and competent project support. With more than 35 years of experience, a long-standing excellent credit rating, international representatives, and several thousand test devices worldwide, CETA Testsysteme GmbH presents itself as quality company and a competent solution partner.
What are the main areas of activity of the company?
J.L: CETA Testsysteme GmbH offers a comprehensive product portfolio of test devices for industrial quality control using compressed air as the test medium. These test devices are primarily used for 100% end-of-line routine tests in the production line.
The portfolio includes leak and flow testers with different sensor technologies, calibration standards, leak-tight switching valves, and specific accessories.
CETA supports customers with comprehensive and competent project support.

What’s the news about new products/services?
J.L: With the CETA User Experience Package, customers have the opportunity to conduct tests with a suitable CETA test device without any obligations. A test device is provided free of charge for two weeks and the setup process is supported remotely. This is a great opportunity to run tests with own products and check whether the test device can be used in the specific application.
CETA was recently accredited for the measurand flow in gases. Test devices, calibration standards, and digital pressure manometers are delivered at no additional cost with an internationally recognized calibration certificate in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. The warranty period for the test devices is 3 years with annual maintenance and can be optionally extended to 5 years.
What are the ranges of products/services?
J.L: The CETA test device portfolio includes leak testers with differential pressure sensors and gauge pressure sensors, mass flow testers and volume flow testers, as well as digital pressure manometers.
The traceability of quality data is of great importance in mass production, 100% routine testing, and products in critical applications. All CETA test devices can be equipped with a variety of industrial interfaces.
CETA offers comprehensive project support in the pre-sales phase, from initial contact and clarification of technical test details to evaluation of technical feasibility and selection of a suitable test method and test device configuration. For challenging projects, CETA even conducts practical tests with the customer’s original products to verify technical feasibility and work out a test regime.
After-sales support includes commissioning, test process optimization, and training, as well as maintenance, calibration, and repair.

What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
J.L: CETA has a long history and strong presence in the automotive market. Due to turbulence, this market segment is currently quite challenging. The packaging industry, where products must be tested for leaks, is promising. Aspects such as sustainability and retrofitting are driving factors. The medical sector is a growing market due to increasing demand and new regulations for risk reduction. End-of-line quality control is an important factor here. CETA has been realizing applications with medical projects for many years.
What can you tell us about market trends?
J.L: The current drivers for the development of innovative solutions are the responsible use of resources, the environment, climate change, changes in the world of work, and the resulting demand for new mobility concepts. These include driver assistance systems and fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly drive concepts. Many products in the field of new mobility must be tested for leaks.
Another current trend is that many projects are based solely on digital 3D models and specifications that have to be fulfilled. The real product has not yet been finalized and no samples are available for practical tests. In this project phase, very specific information on feasibility and the testing process (in particular, total testing time, number of test devices required, confirmation of the required measuring system capability) is requested based solely on 3D models. A major advantage here is that CETA has extensive experience with many different test parts in this very specific area of leak and flow testing.
In the packaging industry, many test stations in packaging lines use sensor solutions for leak testing. However, these solutions are no longer supported, are too difficult to handle or calibrate. The customer does not want to replace the entire test station, including handling and adaptation. They are looking for a so-called “retrofit” solution and only want to replace the sensor solution with a professional and modern test device that offers many improvements. CETA has developed special solutions to meet these requirements.

What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
J.L: In 2025, CETA introduced the new and cost-effective CETATEST 820 leak test device series. This strategically completes the CETA test device portfolio.
The CETATEST 725 LV leak test device was specially developed for leak testing large-volume products. An IBC with a fillable volume of 1,000 liters can be tested in less than 30 seconds, reliably detecting leakages through holes with a diameter of less than 1 mm.
The functionality of the current CETATEST x25 series of testers is being extended to support customers, for example, in performing measurement system analysis.
CETA uses a variant generator integrated into the commercial process in the ERP system. This helps with the selection and quotation of the suitable test device configuration, speeds up the commercial process, and ensures that only test device configurations that can actually be produced are offered. When the test device is ordered, the corresponding test device configuration file is automatically generated and the digital test device file is created and filled out.
For special applications, CETA checks whether a more specific product or firmware changes are required to meet customer requirements. The product development process benefits from these projects through the further integration of these functions into the test device series.
What estimations do you have for the second half of 2025?
J.L: The current market situation is quite complex and challenging. Due to new areas of application, our customers need to adapt their product portfolios and business models to the new market requirements. This takes time and effort to become familiar with the new situation and be recognized as a competent partner. Since CETA has an export share of approximately 50%, international market developments influence our business.
