DBB-SAVER VACUUM-LOCK TECHNOLOGY FOR ACHIEVING TRUE ZERO-LEAK VALVE ISOLATION

Valvetight is a company that supplies its self-developed DBB-SAVER technology, which enables safe work behind otherwise passing valves by mitigating any leakage. By achieving a zero leak rate, the technology allows activities to be performed on isolated equipment without shutting down a plant, platform, or pipeline, thereby avoiding the need for increased boundary isolation.

The technology is based on creating, maintaining, controlling, and monitoring a vacuum-lock in the bleed section between two valves in a classical double block and bleed (DB&B) configuration, or in the body cavity of a single valve, such as a ball or gate valve. The presence of the vacuum-lock makes valve passing physically impossible.

Key advantages include:

  • Zero leak rate toward the safe work area
  • Online isolation integrity monitoring through continuous verification of the vacuum-lock, including alarms
  • Online monitoring of valve leak rates and changes, with pre-alarm functionality
  • Online registration to support greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reporting obligations for processed gas
  • Prevention of plant shutdowns by eliminating the need to increase boundary isolation
  • Prevention of GHG emissions by avoiding boundary isolation increase requirements

The DBB-SAVER vacuum control unit is connected to the relevant bleed point(s) for the duration that isolation is required (see how it works: https://my.valvetight.com/video). The system can be applied to:

  • Any line size diameter
  • Any pressure rating
  • Multiple bleed points simultaneously, including mixed diameters and pressure classes
  • Systems containing gaseous (wet or dry) media, liquids, liquefied gases, or multiphase media
  • Onshore, offshore, and subsea applications

Valvetight was founded in 2014 in the Netherlands by Jeroen Pronk, a former Asset Manager in the Oil & Gas industry who developed the technology. The company commenced its first commercial operations in 2016 and expanded internationally in 2019 with the opening of offices in the UAE.

For equipment deliveries and operational services, Valvetight can be contacted directly or through its agents in various regions, as listed on the company website.

As of February 2025, Valvetight can look back on an operational track record that includes:

  • Over 750 deployments
  • USD 1 billion in prevented plant shutdowns
  • 4 million tonnes of prevented CO₂-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions

In addition, Valvetight has achieved:

  • Zero accidents
  • A 100% success rate in all projects executed with a previously known leak rate
  • A success rate exceeding 98% in projects executed with a previously unknown leak rate

The deployment of the Valvetight DBB-SAVER represents the safest method available for isolating systems that rely on valves. It marks a step change in achieving a higher level of ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) conditions, enabling customers to keep plants, platforms, and pipelines operational while carrying out maintenance or repair activities on isolated sections.
