Interview with Joshua Cannon, Sales Manager at IAP Air Products.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Joshua Cannon: While we offer a variety of products for different solutions, our main area of expertise revolves around fume extraction arms. We are a top supplier of fume arms in the U.S, offering 3”-8” diameter and 3’ – 14’ lengths along with different configurations (hanging or standing), materials (powder-coated steel and stainless), and styles (Standard, Stainless, and Telescopic.)
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
J.C: We don’t want to give too much away here, but we do have a few new products up our sleeves that we are getting ready to release to our customers in the U.S Market. The newest product that we have released into the market are our welding booths. Partially due to customer request and seeing how overpriced our competitors were in the market, we decided to leap headfirst into the welding booth market (which can actually be slightly different than the welding fume extraction market) and have seen a lot of success. Since entering this market, we have been able to help schools, with both large and small budgets, save money so that they can buy other products to better train their students. We have also supplied some of the largest welding distributors in the U.S., being their number 1 choice to work with! Our focus is on (1.) Customer Service/Responsiveness (2.) Fairly Pricing Product (3.) Providing Top Quality Products
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
J.C: When you visit IAP Air Products website, you’ll see that we offer a wide variety of products, which include:
- Fume Arms
- Extension Booms
- Ambient Air Cleaners
- Mobile Units
- Vehicle Exhaust
- Fans
- Welding Booths
- Parts and Accessories
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
J.C: The welding fume extraction market is still an ever-growing market. While the market itself isn’t new, the resurgence of its’ importance has been risen again due to the air quality concerns brought about during the pandemic. Manufacturers, schools, and other industrial facilities now have a heightened sense about the air their employees are breathing and are taking more action to protect them.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
J.C: Looking at the next 3-5 years, we are expecting to see an up-tick in the market. One of the largest effects of Covid (and probably for the better) is how much it has alerted people to the quality of air they are breathing. With this in mind, we expect that this issue will quickly become a top priority for companies, especially those that haven’t seen it as a priority in the past.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
J.C: Often, when people think of innovation they think of things “never seen before” or “brand new to the industry”. However, that’s not always the case. Sometimes innovation, in that sense, can bring about a lot of complication. It can bring out over-engineering and that’s exactly what has happened in our industry. While there are certainly good aspects to that form of innovation, the fact is that simple products should not be over-engineered or over-innovated. Sometimes, the best form of innovation is bringing a lost simplicity back to the market, and we believe that’s exactly what IAP Air Products has done. We offer products that can be easily grasped, easily installed, and easily maintained.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?
J.C: 2022 was a major bounce back year for a lot of companies in our market. We are currently optimistic about 2023 as we continue to see our current customers focus on making improvements to air quality.
