KABELTRONIK – PROVIDER OF SPECIAL CABLE SOLUTIONS

Kabeltronik Arthur Volland GmbH is a Germany-based solution provider for high-quality cable systems “made in Germany”. Founded in 1983, the company develops and distributes reliable cable solutions from its headquarters in Denkendorf for a wide range of applications.

Today, the portfolio comprises more than 2,500 products, ranging from electronic and industrial cables to audio and video cables, and is complemented by customer-specific special developments for demanding technical requirements. Kabeltronik’s customers include well-known industrial and technology companies as well as users from the broadcast, studio and audio technology sectors.

Interview with Oliver Heberling, Managing Director at Kabeltronik Arthur Volland GmbH.

What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Oliver Heberling: Our core activities focus on the development, manufacturing and supply of high-quality cable and wire solutions. We offer a broad and diverse product portfolio, with a particular emphasis on miniature cables, many of which are available directly from stock. This enables us to provide our customers with a high degree of flexibility and short delivery times. In addition, we realize custom-made solutions precisely according to customer specifications. Where required, we also take care of sourcing cable and wire products that are not part of our standard stock range or for which in-house production would not be economically viable, for example in the case of very small quantities. In this way, we see ourselves not only as a manufacturer, but as a comprehensive solution provider.

What’s the news about new products/services?

O.H: We have recently expanded our range of UL-approved hook-up wires by adding a TPE-insulated variant. Compared to conventional PVC-insulated wires, these new products offer significantly smaller outer diameters combined with increased temperature resistance of up to 120 °C, making them particularly suitable for demanding applications, including automotive environments. The TPE wires represent a high-performance alternative to PVC, fluoropolymer or cross-linked insulated solutions. They are characterized by excellent bending and flexing behavior, outstanding ageing properties and very good chemical resistance. In addition, the material is flame-retardant and free from paint-wetting impairment substances. This combination makes the new TPE wires a reliable and safe choice for electrical wiring in a wide range of applications.

What are the ranges of products/services?

O.H: We offer a wide range of cable and wire solutions for diverse applications. This includes single-core wires with relevant approvals as well as designs for particularly demanding operating conditions. Our portfolio is complemented by highly flexible multi-core cables with very small dimensions, especially suited for measurement, control and automation technology. In addition, we supply cables for LED lighting technology with special color coding, bare copper wires for interconnection technology, as well as cables and wires for audio and video applications. Beyond our product range, we provide comprehensive technical support and consulting during product selection or development.

What is the state of the market where you are currently active?

O.H: Kabeltronik is active in a wide variety of industries, and our products are used in almost all established markets. Due to this broad positioning, we assess the overall market situation as stable and solid, even though individual segments show differing dynamics. In mechanical and plant engineering, the market is currently somewhat restrained, as investment decisions are often made more cautiously. At the same time, demand for reliable and high-quality cable solutions remains steady. In the field of measurement, control and automation technology, the market continues to be comparatively robust, driven by ongoing trends such as automation and digitalization that require compact, flexible and precise cabling solutions. The electronics and assembly manufacturing sector is increasingly characterized by higher cost sensitivity, while requirements for quality, availability and technical performance continue to rise. Overall, our diversified market presence allows us to compensate for sector-specific fluctuations and maintain a stable market position.

What can you tell us about market trends?

O.H: Across all markets we serve, we observe a clear trend toward higher functionality combined with increasingly compact designs. In particular, mechanical and plant engineering as well as measurement, control and automation technology show growing demand for cables with smaller dimensions, high flexibility and enhanced mechanical and thermal properties. At the same time, automation, digitalization and increasing integration density continue to gain importance. This results in higher requirements for electrical performance, reliability and service life of cable solutions, especially in dynamic and demanding applications. Another key trend is the growing demand for customization. While standard products remain important, there is a clear increase in demand for application-specific solutions tailored precisely to customer requirements. In addition, sustainability, material efficiency and compliance with international standards and approvals are becoming increasingly important criteria in product selection.

What are the most innovative products/services marketed?

O.H: One of the most innovative products in our current portfolio is a drag-chain-rated Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) cable. It is designed for robust yet highly flexible connections of sensors and actuators and is particularly suitable for applications in mechanical and plant engineering as well as in building technology, automation and vehicle engineering, where cables are subject to continuous movement and mechanical stress. The SPE cable enables seamless Ethernet communication down to the field level and supports Power over Data Line (PoDL) with power levels of up to 50 watts. This allows connected devices to be supplied with power directly via the Ethernet cable, reducing wiring effort and simplifying system integration. The oil-resistant PUR jacket is flame-retardant and halogen-free, ensuring high reliability even in demanding industrial environments.

What estimations do you have for the beginning of 2026?

O.H: For the beginning of 2026, we anticipate an overall cautiously positive development. Although geopolitical and economic uncertainties are likely to continue influencing investment decisions, we expect key markets such as mechanical and plant engineering as well as measurement, control and automation technology to gradually stabilize. At the same time, we foresee a further increase in demand for high-quality, compact and reliable cable solutions, particularly for automated and digitally networked applications. Topics such as miniaturization, higher integration density and international approvals will continue to gain importance. Thanks to our broad market positioning, stock-based product portfolio and strong expertise in customer-specific solutions, we see Kabeltronik well positioned to achieve stable growth and respond flexibly to market requirements at the beginning of 2026.
