Interview with Alberto López de la Torre, Founder & CEO of manfacter.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Alberto López de la Torre: At manfacter we operate mainly in the on-demand manufacturing field. Key areas of our platform include machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and big data analytics. We built a centralized platform for customers and manufacturers through our AI-based marketplace, where we meet the demand for custom parts to industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, consumer electronics… Our platform allows users to access a wide range of manufacturing processes, such as CNC machining and multi-technique 3D printing, for example.
E.E: What’s the news about new products/services?
A.L.T: We are excited to announce the expansion of our materials offerings and the introduction of new post-processing options to provide customers with even greater flexibility and customization capabilities for their projects.
Soon, we will also be attending leading manufacturing industry events where we will present an AI-powered software we are developing right now. This software will include many more functionalities to comprehensively automate the way manufacturing is done today. It will become part of our platform starting in September 2024.
E.E: What are the ranges of products/services?
A.L.T: Our products and services encompass a wide array of manufacturing processes, catering to various industries and project specifications and certificates. Key offerings include our advanced 3D printing services utilizing a wide range of additive manufacturing technologies such as FDM, SLS, SLA, and DMLS. These technologies allow us to produce complex geometries, lightweight structures, and functional prototypes quickly and efficiently. We offer a range of materials, including thermoplastics, photopolymers, and metals. Additionally, we provide precision CNC machining services, including milling, turning, and routing, capable of producing intricate parts with tight tolerances. Our CNC capabilities support both prototype and production volumes in a variety of materials such as metals, plastics, and composites. The idea is to implement even more manufacturing processes over the time.
We implement rigorous quality control processes, including dimensional inspections, material certifications, and functional testing, to ensure that all parts meet the highest standards of quality and precision the industry demands.
Our comprehensive range of materials and technological options allows us to meet diverse project requirements and deliver customized solutions that precisely match our customers’ needs.
E.E: What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
A.L.T: The custom manufacturing industry is experiencing constant growth, but it still lacks widespread digitalization and real implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies. While many companies have begun integrating advanced technologies, a substantial portion of the industry remains reliant on outdated to manual processes. Another significant challenge faced by manufacturers today is finding and connecting with clients who require their specialized services. This difficulty arises from the market fragmentation, where numerous small to medium-sized manufacturers often struggle to reach potential customers beyond their immediate geographical area or industry niche. This presents a tremendous opportunity for innovative solutions like our platform to fill the gap and drive the sector towards greater efficiency and competitiveness.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
A.L.T: The most current trend in the market is undoubtedly the research in AI. Since the release of this tool to the public, companies are gradually joining this trend to streamline production processes and improve efficiency. At manfacter, we are pioneers in implementing AI tailored to industry use, both for internal processes within manfacter and for all our marketplace users.
The integration of IoT (Internet of Things) devices in manufacturing facilities is becoming more prevalent, allowing for real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance, which minimizes downtime and extends the lifespan of equipment. Customization and personalization are also gaining traction, as customers seek products tailored to their specific needs and preferences. This trend is supported by advancements in digital manufacturing technologies that allow for more flexible and cost-effective production of customized goods. Another significant trend is the growing emphasis on sustainability and environmental responsibility throughout the manufacturing supply chain. This shift is driven by both regulatory requirements and consumer demand for more sustainable products. As a result, manufacturers are investing in technologies and processes that reduce their carbon footprint and promote circular economy principles, such as recycling and reusing materials like we do.
E.E: What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
A.L.T: Although the use of our platform and the tools we provide to manufacturers and customers are entirely free, there is no doubt that the main attraction for which many partners have trusted us is our AI-based quotation tool and 24/7 multilanguage chat. These tools utilize advanced machine learning and algorithms to generate accurate quotes quickly, based on 3D models, materials, and production processes. Simultaneously, our AI chat, intelligently solves any technical question to our clients 24 hours 7 days a week in any language, ensuring seamless and optimal results.
Additionally, our Additive Manufacturing capabilities are the most demanded services across the platform by buyers, which encompass metal and polymer 3D printing technologies. These cutting-edge solutions empower our clients to create intricate geometries, facilitate rapid prototyping, and enable on-demand production with minimal waste.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2024?
A.L.T: For 2024 we anticipate continued growth and expansion in 2024, driven by advancements in manufacturing technology and increasing demand for custom manufacturing solutions. We expect a high increase in revenue, driven by new product launches and market expansion. Our aim is to capture a larger share of the manufacturing market, particularly targeting small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) as manufacturers and small-medium-large as customers. We plan to double our customer base by the end of the year, leveraging strategic partnerships and targeted marketing efforts.
