Interview with Fatih Bosna, Co-Founder & CTO of Novocycle.

What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Fatih Bosna: Novocycle operates on two business models: Recycling-as-a-Service (RaaS) and Technology-as-a-Service (TaaS). RaaS involves globally decentralized micro-facilities serving OEMs, micromobility firms, and battery manufacturers’ waste and scrap batteries. TaaS licenses the technology to partners so they can own their waste streams and recycled materials via joint ventures or leasing models.

What’s the news about new products/services?

F.B: In 2025, Novocycle started their operations with a pilot-line in Gebze, Türkiye and is setting up a highly automated recycling unit in the Netherlands, with future plans in countries like Spain, Germany, USA and the UAE. These sites integrate advanced pre-processing of cells to recover recycled cathode and anode active materials, suitable for reuse or as input for Hydrometallurgy. Novocycle has proven that their recycled materials are suitable for battery manufacturing and is improving their materials to match 100% virgin-grade performances.

What is the state of the market where you are currently active?

F.B: The lithium-ion battery recycling sector is undersupplied with feedstock but oversupplied with capacity. Most recyclers rely on centralized shredding, resulting in material losses, process complexity, waste and low profitability. Novocycle’s decentralized, high-efficiency model counters this with agile facilities optimized for local, high-margin recycling.

What can you tell us about market trends?

F.B: Two major trends define the market: tightening EU regulations (e.g., Battery Regulation 2023/1542) and OEM demand for traceable, battery-grade recycled materials. Novocycle is well-positioned with its clean process, modular factory design, and digital traceability, aligning with emerging ESG and circular economy requirements.

What estimations do you have for the second half of 2025?

F.B: Novocycle is on track to deploy a new advanced facility in the Netherlands with 1000 tons/year capacity by year-end, and secure $30M+ in contracts for feedstock. With partnerships underway with companies like GoSharing and BinBin, and negotiations with major OEMs and battery producers, Novocycle forecasts steadily growing its production capacity and expanding licensing deals.
