PUTZMAUS: THE LEADER IN BOILER TUBE CLEANING EQUIPMENT

Putzmaus Jäger Technik GmbH is an owner-managed company and was founded in 1997. The company’s headquarters is in Liebochstraße 29, 8143 Dobl, Austria.

The CEO Dipl.-Ing. Harald Jäger studied engineering and economics and deals since over 3 decades with energy technology and efficient cleaning of heat exchanger systems.

Putzmaus® is an Austrian designed and precision engineered tube cleaning system that has been in use in Europe for more than twenty-five years.

Interview with Dipl.-Ing. Harald Jäger, CEO of Putzmaus Jäger Technik GmbH.

Tell us about your ranges of products?

Harald Jäger: PUTZMAUS® is a compressed air operated cleaning system. It is lightweight, handy and can be operated by a single person.

PUTZMAUS® is mostly made out of stainless steel and titanium and therefore very robust. Due to a special vibration of the system, PUTZMAUS® is capable to clean with soft stainless steel brushes in an efficiently way while protecting the material of the tubes. The only wearing parts of PUTZMAUS® are the brushes and the ku plate.

For the different boiler sizes (number of tubes) or rather the tube dimensions (tubes inner diameter) we are offering different sizes of PUTZMAUS®.

For the different boiler sizes (number of tubes) or rather the tube dimensions (tubes inner diameter) we are offering different sizes of PUTZMAUS®.

  • PUTZMAUS® Micro from tubes inner diameter 27-34 mm.
  • PUTZMAUS® Mini from tubes inner diameter 34-41 mm.
  • PUTZMAUS® Midi from tubes inner diameter 41-48 mm.
  • PUTZMAUS® Large from tubes inner diameter 49-70 mm.
  • PUTZMAUS® XL from tubes inner diameter 51-230 mm.

With special guiding adapter for extra large tubes, the XL can be used for tubes inner diameter up to 600mm.

PUTZMAUS® Large and PUTZMAUS® XL can be used almost for the same tube dimensions. The boiler size is a decisive criterion! With a capacity of 1000kW or rather with a tube’s length over 3000 mm the PUTZMAUS® XL would be the reasonable. PUTZMAUS® XL is faster and stronger.

For other inner diameters we are building a custom PUTZMAUS®.

What special characteristics do your products have?

H.J: CLEANING HEAT EXCHANGER SYSTEMS WAS NEVER SO EFFICIENT

PUTZMAUS® is mostly made out of stainless steel and titanium and is made 100% in Austria.

As a single person can operate PUTZMAUS® easily and quickly, this leads to more regular cleaning during the heating season, lowers flue gas emissions and better overall boiler seasonal efficiency.

PUTZMAUS® can operate inside a hot heat exchanger. Due to the cooling down compressed air and its 400°C high temperature hose, it allows a reduced boiler shut down period before cleaning can commence. The Putzmaus® tube cleaner works on any straight pipe for numerous industrial applications.

In what kind of projects are they used?

H.J: In the beginning net PUTZMAUS® was used to clean biomass tube bundle heat exchanger. Since then, many other fields of applications appeared. For example: Cleaning of the steam boiler tubes, oil boilers, gas boilers, cylinders of hydraulic systems, tubes after production etc.

The Putzmaus® is popular in the heating and energy industry because regular pipe cleaning improves equipment efficiency and reduces fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.

The device is suitable for anyone who has a boiler and cleans boiler pipes for example: gardening, agriculture, sawmills, furniture production, energy industry, ideal for ship boilers etc.

How do your products differ from others on the market?

H.J: PUTZMAUS® is now the world’s best-selling tubes cleaning systems for oil/gas-, coal- and biomass heat exchanger. Every disadvantage of the other cleaning systems is certainly removed by using PUTZMAUS®.

  1. It is the easiest operable automatic tube cleaning device
  2. It is the most robust automatic cleaning device
  3. And the biggest advantage: PUTZMAUS® is working efficiently without damaging the tubes

How are they used by your clients?

H.J: Cleaning heat exchanger pipes is saving money. It only takes a 1mm layer of ash, condensate of tar, clinker or slag to decrease the efficiency of the boiler by 8-10 %. In case of a 3 MW heating installation, cleaning pipes means an annual saving of €

Due to the reduced used fuel, the units in front of the burners like pig, chain chain conveyor, conveyor belts, etc. are under less stress and therefore lasting longer.

Cleaning thermal-exchange pipes results a lower flue gas temperature after thermal exchange and protects units like induced draft blower, multi-cyclone electric filter, etc.

PUTZMAUS® can be used in low-level operations. The installation does not have to cool off completely because PUTZMAUS® is cooled by compressed air and the high temperature hose is heating resistant up to 400°C.

PUTZMAUS® is easy and quick to operate by just one person. It is so simple that even a casual worker can operate it. This saves human resources and time.

The special operation method of PUTZMAUS® prevents damage to the pipe.

There is no extra space in front of the thermal exchange needed.

PUTZMAUS® can also clean vertically installed pipes.

In comparison to cheap imitations, PUTZMAUS® fulfils TÜV regulations: the level of vibration in the operator’s hand is low and it stops automatically when exiting the pipe.

15.000 – 75.000 (depending on the used fuel: wood, oil, gas, etc.). Therefore, the PUTZMAUS® pays for itself after just a few months. The operator saves money instead of literally burning it.

What kind of problems do your clients face on the job site?

H.J: Even a minor ash deposits in the heating exchange tubes lead to massive losses in the efficiency and higher fuel consumption. Furthermore, the units downstream of the heat exchanger break down unusually quickly caused by the above-average exhaust gas temperature. So, we recognized the economic importance of the shorter but more frequently cleaning intervals.

Back then and also currently, the boiler manufacturers are supplying a several meters long pole with brush attachments for cleaning the tubes. This manual cleaning is time consuming drudgery. In addition, it is not possible to get an effective cleaning result in combination with the short term cleaning intervals.

How do your products help them overcome these problems?

H.J: Cleaning heat exchanger pipes is saving money. It only takes a 1mm layer of ash, condensate of tar, clinker or slag to decrease the efficiency of the boiler by 8-10 %. In case of a 3 MW heating installation, cleaning pipes means an annual saving of € (Euro).
