SMC Group is an Italian company, based in Spresiano (TV). Thanks to the experience gained in over forty years in the boiler-making and mechanical carpentry sector, the company is now able to offer customers a service of technical consultancy, design, and construction of equipment and plants for various sectors, managing their start-up on every continent.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
SMC: It is not easy to explain in a few words what we do at SMC! In all these years we have built the most diverse plants and equipment, for sectors ranging from chemical and petrochemical to plastic and recycling, passing through the food industry, pharmaceutical-hospital industries, and the treatment of special waste.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
SMC: For us at SMC Group, innovating means strategically combining the skills acquired and the technologies developed in a specific sector into totally new areas, with the aim of creating more value and less waste.
We are currently experimenting with the application of microwave drying, already widely used in the plastic and food sectors, in fields that have not yet been explored.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
SMC: Our product portfolio is quite large and varied, including heat exchangers, reactors, dissolvers, mixing and stirring systems. Microwave dryers, vacuum dryers, and odor removal systems for plastic polymers, steam or microwave pasteurizers and sterilizers, but also rotary drum dryers, sailboat duplex and super-duplex keels, resin production plants, and heated screw dryers.
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
SMC: To date, the most interesting market for us is the plastic sector: the energy and raw materials crisis, government regulations and sensitivity to sustainability issues are driving more and more companies to invest in plastic recycling technologies.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
SMC: We’re noting an increasing interest in the circular economy, with a particular focus on technologies for the recycling and recovery of end-of-life products.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
SMC: Definitely our MWD dryers, which by exploiting microwave technology allow us to dry and crystallize plastic techno-polymers in a single step. The developed technology not only reduces energy consumption (up to -70% compared to traditional systems) but also process times, reducing the thermal, oxidative, and hydrolytic degradation of PET and polyamides due to process time itself.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?
SMC: We expect growth in our market, the result of both the new representatives and the historic collaboration with leading companies in various sectors, from plastics to food.
