Interview with Alfonso Garrido Parejo, CEO of Symaga.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Alfonso Garrido Parejo: Symaga Silos is a Spanish family-owned business with an international scope, specialized in designing, manufacturing, and marketing of galvanized steel silos available for different industries such as breweries, animal feed, port facilities, flourmill, ethanol, drying, flourmills, and storage of raw materials for the plastic industry and biofuels.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
A.G.P: Symaga supplies a wide range, flat bottom silos up to 25.000 m³, and hopper silos, 12 meters in diameter with 45°hopper and 2,643 m³ capacity, with double welded compression ring, with 60° and 66° hopper. Symaga provides delivery silos with a wide range of capacities from 27m³ until 267m³ unloading to truck or train. This type of hopper silos for elevated structures are usually designated to a daily storage. Other types of silos are Indoor silos are a cost-effective solution for indoor storage. They are now available ranging from 3m to 12.23m diameter, with the following models SBI: 3.00, 3.50, 4.60, 5.35, 6.10, 6.87, 7.60, 8.40, 9.20, 9.93, 10.7, 11.45 y 12.23. The maximum Height of the line is limited to 10 rings of body sheets, or 11,45m. Mass discharge silos is a type of discharge of the material within the silo. This movement of all the product at the same time causes great stresses on the walls of the silo that we calculate with the NF-P-22-630 standard. Small capacity silos for livestock building are the feed silos.
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
A.G.P: Nowadays we are in a global uncertain stage. The market has suffered during last years different crises: high prices and shortage of steel, our raw material, high price of logistics and, of course, Ukraine war. Ukraine and Russia have been in the past years big markets for Grain storage. At the moment our HS code is banned to be exported to Russia so as long as sanctions are in place, the Russian market remains out. Regarding Ukraine, we think that once the war finishes demand will remain strong. Besides, in the last months, an interest rate rise is blocking international demand.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
A.G.P: After the Ukraine war started, we have seen a major demand in grain importing areas, like Northern Africa, Central America and South East Asia.
Europe’s demand remains less strong.
Other trend, Farming, Flour Milling and pure Storage(traders). We are seeing more expansions than greenfield projects.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
A.G.P: Demand on new accessories for security and to keep grain quality such as fall speed reducers have an increasing demand.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?
A.G.P: An uncertain situation, interest rates are rising, and raw materials and logistics are more stable. Regarding Ukraine, it’s hard to know when the war will end. From a non-business perspective, we hope the war ends soon.
