Tecnottica Consonni is an optical manufacturing company founded in 1957 and based in Italy, 35 km far from Milan. The company has started its business producing lenses for magnification or illumination purposes mainly for the local market, but in the early 2000s has jumped into the fabrication of precision optical components for various sectors and has expanded its businesses in Europe and all around the world.
Also remaining a family-owned company of 35 people, nowdays Tecnottica is a well-known optical manufacturer that works on custom-based designs, providing high-end level optical substrates for many different applications.
What are the main areas of activity of the company?
The company is specialized working on custom-based designs (also assisting customers during the optical and mechanical engineering) in order to create various optical elements (lenses, windows, prisms, complete assembled systems), directly starting from the raw materials, following the finest operations of grinding and polishing and up to the coating processes that are handled completely in-house, working on all the optical glasses available on the market with the highest level of quality and flexibility.
What’s the news about new products/services?
Currently the company has added a new line of dedicated machines and metrology for the fabrication of aspherical substrate, working on a diameter range from 10 mm up to 200 mm; with the addition of two new 5-axis CNC controlled machines (one for grinding and one for polishing), a connected software for deterministic corrections on the surfaces and a dedicated metrological system with the LuphoScan 420 SD, Tecnottica is now able to deliver very accurate aspherical elements, remaining flexible on quantities and materials used.

Also, starting from October 2025 the company will work on a building expansion of 700 square meters, to create a new specific environment for precision optical processes and metrology.
For the coating department, which opened in 2022, the company is continuing to follow the market trends to keep adding the best fitting technologies related to customers’ needs, in terms of new coating chambers and tests’ equipment.
What are the ranges of products/services?
We can work on custom-based optical elements in a range of 3-300 mm on Ø for spherical substrates, in a range of 10-200 mm on Ø for aspherical substrate and with a limit of 420 mm size-length for flat optics.
What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
Tecnottica has been deeply involved especially in the aerospace and astronomical markets, starting from 2020, thanks to his high level of quality of products and his big flexibility on working with different materials on various number of parts, also working on the fabrication of a single elements for a very specific application.

What can you tell us about market trends?
The company has definitely been involved in huge growth in the last 5 years, when we’ve doubled our annual revenue and grow + 10 in number of employees; that’s mainly thanks to the incoming of demands from the aerospace field that’s allowed the company to grow also in experience and quality and not only in numbers. We see that, also for the next years, the trend continues to follow this growth, and the company is constantly adding capabilities and new technologies to remain aligned to the market demands.
What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
As previously mentioned, the company’s started to work deeply on the fabrication of aspherical substrates, thanks to their high demand on the market, and is focusing also on elevate the quality level of the surfaces delivered to the customers; that’s probably will be done adding more technologies for the precision “finishing” of the lenses to the current capabilities.
Also, the company is strongly focused on create the best proper environment for their products and processes, that’s why during the next building expansion planned for the last quarter of 2025 there’ll be added new work environments with climatic control and special anti-vibration grounds for metrological purposes, to continuously increase the level of quality of the optical elements the company is working on.

What estimations do you have for the second half of 2025?
Seeing the current markets status, in line with the growth the company has experienced in the last 4/5 years, we’re expecting to continue to work on the increasing of our quality level and explore new possibilities and markets thanks to the continuous research and development of our production processes and capabilities.
Also, we’ll explore new possibilities in new countries participating to different exhibitions worldwide, including Europe, USA and Asia.
