TRL Space is the company based in Czech Republic. They are small satellites and probes system integrator. The company builds upon expertise gained during the years since the Czech Republic joined ESA in 2008. The team has deep experience in working in the space industry since then. The company is able to cover the full project cycle.
TRL Space starts from mission definition and analysis followed by the system development during which they perform system engineering, mechanical design, structural and thermal analysis, electrical and software development, subsystems procurement, manufacturing, integration, assembly, testing, qualification and finally provide you with launch.
TRL Space is also able to control your satellite via their operations center.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
TRL Space: We work on one Moon probe, several small Earth Observation satellites for commercial customers. We run a Nanosatellite project for demonstration of new subsystems.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
TRL Space: One of the unique products we offer is called TRULY – AI-based IMINT software for automated analysis of satellite imagery saves manpower and provides highly customized intelligence solutions. Over 80+ proprietary algorithms for object detection and classification, change detection, and land segmentation can monitor and analyze thousands of locations globally, with all-weather, day and night surveillance thanks to fusion of optical and SAR imagery. Maritime AIS data and your own satellites can be integrated into the system. Tip & Cue approach can give you immediate monitoring of the desired events.
Second new product is called Modular Central Software and it is designed to enable quick and easy software customization for individual satellite missions. Our modular software standardizes the communication interfaces and protocols between individual software blocks of the satellite and thus ensures they can be quickly modified, newly added, completely replaced as well as easily verified. The standardization also allows for in-orbit updates and uploads of new software blocks and functions.
Very popular is our Universal EO Nano Satellite 12/16U solution. We offer smart 12U or 16U satellite with high-resolution. It is a modern and highly usable nano satellite using new technologies like on-board artificial intelligence combined with enhanced monitoring capabilities based on multi or hyperspectral sensor secured by cryptography module. The project will go through the full process, starting from requirements collection and understanding, going to the development of the satellite, integration, testing and launch.
It is a quick solution. The total duration of the project from kicks off till launch is 18 months.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
TRL Space: Apart of the satellites development we offer product like Hyperspectral sensing, Lidar, Cyber security for satellites, On-board data processing, 3D printing pro space applications. We digitize agriculture by using our platform using AI data processing. We work on Microgravity Lab and we offer a license for our virtual constellation TRULY which I already mentioned.
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
TRL Space: The Global Small Satellite Market was valued at USD 2.9 Billion in 2022 and is projected to reach USD 8.86 Billion by 2030. Increasing Adoption of Small Satellites for Commercial Applications has Significantly Boosted Market Growth. Military satellites also play a crucial role in communication, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. They are utilized for early warning systems and continuous monitoring of specific regions.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
TRL Space: The trends we see in the space market by 2023 are an increase in demand for small satellites, along with the deployment of new constellations of satellites. These new orders are coming also from emerging and developing countries as they see the benefits of space technologies and applications. Interested markets are no longer only in US or Europe.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
TRL Space: It is probably our LiDAR system. With the growing number of objects in space, our Flash LiDAR will provide satellites with their own precise near-object detection for collision avoidance. Similarly, a Doppler LiDAR system for detecting, tracking and characterizing close and distant objects can be used as a sensor for Space Traffic Management networks. Another application of our LiDAR systems is topography mapping with submeter resolution for planetary missions as well as Earth’s surface mapping from stratospheric platforms.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?
TRL Space: 2023 seems to be a year for Moon missions. Russia, India, and also the European Space Agency are all gearing up to launch missions. There are a lot of reasons why nations are now interested in going back to the Moon and it’s not just about scientific research and exploration. We are happy to be part if this momentum with our lunar mission called LUGO. The other main topics are: Space Traffic Management and small satellites constellations.
