VOIDLESS: NEW GENERATION OF BOX ON-DEMAND MACHINERY

Voidless is an Italian deep-tech startup specializing in packaging automation, offering on-demand solutions that optimize logistics operations, reduce material waste, and enhance efficiency. The P-Series technology eliminates the need for pre-made box inventories by producing custom-sized primary and secondary packaging in real-time. By combining precision engineering, automation, and sustainability, Voidless is reshaping how businesses approach packaging, making operations more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Interview with Carlo Villani, Co-founder & CEO of Voidless.

What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Carlo Villani: Voidless operates at the intersection of logistics automation, sustainable packaging, and process optimization. Our solutions serve e-commerce, third-party logistics (3PL), industrial manufacturing, spare parts distribution, and pharmaceuticals, where packaging plays a key role in cost reduction and efficiency. Through automated, real-time optimized packaging systems, we help businesses streamline operations, reduce material waste, and lower shipping costs.

What’s the news about new products/services?

C.V: This year marks a pivotal moment for Voidless with the expansion of our P2 installations across major logistics hubs and leading industrial clients. Following the successful deployment of the P2 Complete at Poste Italiane’s Vidigulfo facility, we are accelerating market adoption, with three to four additional large-scale installations planned by the end of 2025.

The P2 machine has already demonstrated its ability to significantly reduce packaging waste, lower shipping costs, and enhance automation in high-volume operations. Thanks to its modular design, clients can tailor the system to their specific needs by choosing from four different configurations, allowing them to scale automation levels and functionalities as required. The P2 operates at a capacity of 180-200 boxes per hour, handling box sizes from 100x100x50 mm to 600x400x400 mm.

To meet the increasing demand for higher-speed, large-scale packaging, we have developed the P3, which delivers 500 boxes per hour while supporting box sizes from 10x10x5 cm to 60x40x40 cm. Designed for high-volume operations, the P3 brings greater efficiency, throughput, and automation, ensuring seamless integration into complex logistics environments.

What are the ranges of products/services?

C.V: The Voidless P-Series provides scalable packaging automation with different configurations tailored to various operational needs.

  • P2: Currently deployed in the market, it produces custom-sized primary and secondary packaging, optimizing box dimensions to minimize material waste and improve logistics efficiency.
  • P3 : A next-generation system designed for high-volume operations, offering increased throughput and further process optimization.

In addition to our packaging solutions, Voidless is an official distributor of Cubiscan, a leading dimensional scanning system that accurately measures product dimensions and weight. These systems perfectly complement our P-Series machines, ensuring that each box is precisely tailored to its contents.

What is the state of the market where you are currently active?

C.V: The packaging automation sector is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by the rise of e-commerce, increasing logistics costs, and stricter sustainability regulations. Businesses face mounting pressure to reduce shipping volumes, minimize packaging waste, and integrate automation to enhance efficiency and remain competitive.

New European regulations are accelerating this shift, particularly the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which mandates reductions in packaging waste, improved recyclability, and the elimination of unnecessary materials. Solutions like Voidless’s P-Series, which minimize excess packaging and optimize material usage, are becoming essential for companies seeking regulatory compliance while improving operational efficiency.

What can you tell us about market trends?

C.V: The continued growth of e-commerce is driving the need for on-demand packaging, allowing companies to reduce waste, optimize shipping, and cut costs. Sustainability is a key industry focus, with businesses eliminating overpackaging and adopting recyclable materials to meet both regulatory requirements and consumer expectations.

Packaging is also evolving as a branding tool, where companies seek customized solutions that enhance customer experience through personalized and eco-friendly materials. Simultaneously, the industry is shifting toward higher efficiency and automation, as businesses aim to reduce labor dependency and streamline logistics operations.

What are the most innovative products/services marketed?

C.V: The P2 machine is a breakthrough in automated packaging, featuring real-time optimization software that calculates the ideal box size for each shipment, ensuring minimal material waste and cost savings. Its modular design allows businesses to gradually scale automation, starting with cutting and folding capabilities and expanding to fully automated printing and erecting functionalities.

The upcoming P3 system enhances these capabilities, increasing throughput to 500 boxes per hour while supporting a broader range of packaging formats. Combined with Voidless’s Packaging-as-a-Service model, which enables adoption with minimal upfront investment, these technologies make smart, sustainable, and cost-effective packaging automation accessible to a wider range of businesses.

What estimations do you have for the beginning of 2025?

C.V: By early 2025, Voidless will complete three to four additional large-scale installations, reinforcing our role in logistics and industrial packaging. Our consistent payback period of 2-3 years across multiple clients confirms the financial and operational benefits of our solutions.

With increasing regulatory pressures and a market shift toward waste reduction and supply chain optimization, demand for automated, sustainable packaging solutions will continue to grow. Voidless is positioned to expand across Europe, establishing itself as a key player in the next generation of smart packaging automation.
