Interview with Jihye Jang, Junior Marketing Manager at FormLED Lighting.

What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Jihye Jang: Our company specializes in the design, development, production, and implementation of customized LED lighting and display systems across various applications.
Building on this expertise, we work closely with lighting designers, architects, and clients to provide optimized lighting solutions for a wide range of installation sites, including cinemas, hotels, event venues, historic buildings, cultural institutions, medical clinics, and museums.
To deliver results where functionality and design harmonize, we take a balanced approach that combines creativity with technical precision.

What’s the news about new products/services?

J.J: We continuously refine and upgrade our technologies and services to deliver customized LED lighting systems that can flexibly adapt to a wide range of environments.

Our product lineup includes Controller and Lighting Unit as well as software, each offering unique capabilities and designed to integrate seamlessly for optimal system configurations tailored to project requirements.

With precision panel cutting technology, we can respond accurately to the shape and layout needs of each project, enabling creative installations even under complex design constraints. This level of flexibility and precision supports a wide range of applications, from designer lighting to large scale multimedia facades.

In addition, advanced features such as brightness and color temperature control, remote operation and content automation enable highly personalized lighting experiences.

Dynamic content playback capabilities supporting video, audio, image and shader formats offer immersive and visually rich experiences.

All of these features operate reliably through an integrated network and WiFi control system, ensuring consistent performance regardless of project scale or environment.

What are the ranges of products/services?

J.J: We offer a wide range of products and services, from standard configurations to fully customized project solutions.

On the product side, our systems feature a slim installation depth of under 100 mm, lightweight aluminum frames, and a modular architecture, enabling seamless integration into flat, curved, or irregular surfaces. On the service side, we handle complete in house development of both hardware and software, ensuring full control over performance and compatibility.

We provide end to end services that cover every stage, from consulting and planning to development, integration, installation, and maintenance. This allows us to respond flexibly with optimized configurations tailored to the goals and spatial requirements of each project.

What is the state of the market where you are currently active?

J.J: FormLED Lighting GmbH serves a diverse client base including lighting designers, architects, museum curators, and cultural planners. There is steady demand for customized LED wall and ceiling systems adapted to the spatial and structural characteristics of buildings.

In the healthcare sector, interest is growing in patient-centered lighting environments that support emotional well-being.

In art and culture, lighting is gaining attention as a medium to shape spatial ambiance and convey artistic messages, with increasing demand for flexible and sculptural installation options.

Lighting also plays a crucial role in commercial spaces, such as shopping malls and hotels, where it significantly contributes to the interior design and overall user experience.

What can you tell us about market trends?

J.J: In the lighting industry, there is growing interest in wellness-focused lighting that mimics natural daylight, as well as diverse lighting experiences that shape spatial mood and emotional response. As lighting becomes more connected to human perception and emotion, customers prefer custom lighting systems that harmonize with architectural space, placing importance on aesthetic quality, flexibility, and user-centered control. Sustainability has also become a core standard in lighting design, with increasing emphasis on energy efficiency, durability, recyclable components, low power consumption, and long lifespan. Looking ahead, demand is expected to continue rising for integrated lighting solutions that combine design, wellness, and sustainability.

What are the most innovative products/services marketed?

J.J: One of the most innovative examples is the lighting system installed in the relaxation zone of a wellness hotel. This modern lighting concept transforms the relaxation space into a multisensory and immersive environment, offering an exceptional experience of rest and rejuvenation.

The lighting is controlled via a FormLED Player with our software and fully synchronized with audio content.

Several scenes are available: one evokes the feeling of sunlight filtering through a forest, while another features a refined display of dynamically shifting colors. Each scene is accompanied by matching soundscapes, creating a deeper and more engaging atmosphere.

With smoothly transitioning hues and expressive light movements, the installation stimulates emotions and creates a space of calm and stress relief.

What estimations do you have for the second half of 2025?

J.J: In the second half of 2025, we plan to further advance our customized LED solutions to precisely meet the spatial and client-specific needs. Upcoming projects will integrate video, sculptural elements, and lighting control technologies to deliver more immersive and meaningful experiences.

One such project will take place in front of the main entrance of ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medien, Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe), where the outdated lighting installations will be replaced with 25 new LED panels.

These new fixtures will go beyond conventional lighting functions, serving as a medium to visually enrich and communicate media art content.

Each panel will incorporate 3,036 RGB LEDs, along with 280 warm white and 280 cool white LEDs in a tunable-white configuration. The RGB section delivers 60W, the tunable-white section 55W, and each unit includes downlights rated at 20W for ground illumination. This upgrade will significantly enhance not only the visual impact but also the energy efficiency and flexibility in content-driven lighting scenarios.

Based on such projects, we will continue to evolve our design approaches to meet the specific requirements of industries such as architecture, culture, healthcare, and commerce. Our commitment to sustainability includes low power consumption, long-life LEDs, and the use of recyclable materials, fully aligned with global sustainability standards.
