INTERVIEW WITH CEDES GROUP

CEDES Group operates in the field of sensor technologies based on photonics, as well as safe network and control systems. The company offers its innovative solutions for elevators, escalators, industrial doors and warehouse management systems in more than 60 countries. Its product portfolio ranges from simple photoelectric sensors, through highly complex 3D camera systems in cutting-edge TOF (Time-of-Flight) technology, to complete safety-related control systems.

Easy Engineering: What’s the news about new products?

CEDES: Thanks to the successful acquisition of VITECTOR in the middle of last year, the CEDES Group’s revenue has increased. More importantly still, so did its strategic importance – CEDES is now a full-liner in sensors for industrial doors, and a global leader in this market. The volumes are increasing continuously and are expected to grow further in the coming years. Our customers have put their trust in us with new projects, for which we are very grateful.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

CEDES: Time-of-Flight technology and advanced 3D image processing will have a strong impact on entrance automation in the near future, and CEDES is definitely a trailblazer in this area. The rise of Internet of Things (IoT) is an equally exciting topic. Safety sensors are the eyes and ears of a building. The next step will be to unlock the potential of data collected by those sensors and make use of them in connected smart building systems.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

CEDES: The CEDES APS & iDiscovery and an electrically activated safety gear are a perfect match. Our solution simplifies the hoistway in a radical way, making the installation, configuration and teach process much faster and easier. Two new installations in Switzerland and in Spain clearly demonstrate these advantages. Together with our partners, we are taking elevator design to the next level. The combination of APS, iDiscovery and an electrically activated safety gear significantly reduces elevator cost and complexity, as well as installation and maintenance time. We strongly believe that the solution is future-proof and that those two projects were just the first of many similar new installations to come.
