INTERVIEW WITH PBN COATINGS

Over four decades ago, in 1984, PBN Coatings laid the foundation for with a modest paint shop north of Hamburg. Their passion for quality and their commitment to customer satisfaction have been the cornerstones of the company from the beginning.

In 2005, PBN Coatings reached an important milestone when they introduced customers to the innovative technology of Cerakote Ceramic coatings.

In 2008, the company got appointed European Distributor for all Cerakote Ceramic Products.

What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Our main focus is the distribution and tech support for all three brands Cerakote, Prismatic Powders and Cerakote Ceramics.

As European Training center for NIC Industries Inc. we offer one-on-one individual training classes at our facility in Germany or off-side at the premises of the client. Each class is tailored to fit the needs of the client.

What’s the news about new products/services?

In February we have launched our new Cerakote F-Series (PFAS FREE) which is our answer to the upcoming EU regulations regarding PFAS containing products.

NIC Industries Inc. has strategically invested in research and development in recent years to not only meet market demands but also redefine the standard of coatings. The introduction of the PFAS-free F-Series is the result of a clear vision: to combine innovation with responsibility.

What are the ranges of products/services?

  • Distribution for all three brands Cerakote, Prismatic Powders and Cerakote Ceramics (Care car products)
  • European Training center
  • As the first European Cerakote paint shop, we have been processing Cerakote for 20 years now and continue to offer this service

What is the state of the market where you are currently active?

It totally depends on the industry we are focusing on. The automotive industry is actually challenging and more on a down trend. In other industries like Aerospace and Defense we are growing a lot and are luckily able to absorb these losses in full. Fortunately, Cerakote is an an-organic thin-film coating which can be applied on nearly every surface. Therefore, we are diversifying in lots of different industries

What can you tell us about market trends?

  • Sustainability and environmental friendliness: There is an increasing focus on environmentally friendly paints that contain fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Water-based coatings and biodegradable products are gaining in importance.
  • Energy efficiency: The development of coatings that cure at lower temperatures or require less energy in production is becoming increasingly important in order to lower operating costs and reduce the environmental footprint.
  • Personalization: Customers are increasingly demanding tailor-made solutions. This leads to a higher demand for specialized coatings that meet specific requirements.

What are the most innovative products/services marketed?

I could list a few, but I think it’s our H-900 Electrical Barrier Coating.

It has been designed to provide a high-quality and long-lasting finish for parts requiring electrical insulation. Cerakote Electrical Barrier is a durable, corrosion-resistant, oven cure, spray-on dielectric coating that provides unparalleled levels of adhesion and resistance to solvents and chemicals.

Especially since the introduction of electromobility, it is becoming more and more important for us and various industries such as automotive, aerospace, etc. and is thus playing its part in making our world cleaner and greener.

What estimations do you have for the beginning of 2025?

I expect for us the coatings industry a steady growth, especially in emerging markets where industrialization and urbanization are on the rise. The demand for coatings in construction, automotive, Aerospace and other sectors is expected to increase. An increased focus lies on sustainable products. Companies will increasingly develop environmentally friendly coatings that contain fewer VOCs and are made from renewable raw materials. Compliance with stricter environmental regulations will also play a key role. The industry will experience an intense competition as new payers enter the market and existing players are trying to defend their position.
