Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
The sole visit to our workshop is an immersion into Colombian tradition; an intimate glimpse of our country’s techniques, feats and passions. The artisans at work, the hand-built and recovered looms, the fiber weaving and the metal knitting, make for beautifully chaotic scenery. All of our pieces are made in-house by Colombia’s finest craftsmen, who care for the fibers as they do for their craft. A hand-made process that requires fine technique and extreme patience, staying true to our country’s and family’s legacy. We handle our fibers with reverence, care and impeccable skill to create pieces of Home, Fashion, and Art.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
VERDI’s latest collection, The Tatami Rug, is the result of a captivating blend of a thirteenth-century-old Japanese style crafted using Latin American fibers such as Colombian Fique, Chilean Copper and Peruvian Alpaca. This timeless design brings an eternal allure to the modern world, seamlessly blending classic and contemporary elements to create a piece that will last forever. After 30 years VERDI re-introduces the Japanese inspired rug originally created by Carlos Vera Dieppa. Immerse yourself in its magnetic geometric patterns and captivating textures. We present to you the encounter between an everlasting classic style and the best of Colombian craft: a timeless rug.

E.E: What is the state of the market where you are currently active?

This heritage adds a unique story and cultural significance to luxury products. Colombian artisanal products often emphasize using local, sustainable materials and ethical production practices, resonating with this growing tradition. While preserving traditional techniques is crucial, adapting to contemporary design trends and market demands internationally is equally important for long-term success. Thus, with continued support and strategic development, VERDI can overcome challenges and establish itself as a prominent player in the global luxury landscape. Our Textile Studio offers a unique blend of rich heritage, exquisite craftsmanship, and conscious practices, catering to a unique piece for clientele seeking authentic and meaningful luxury experiences.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
These trends highlight a shift towards meaningful luxury in the Colombian market. Consumers are seeking products that tell a story, embody cultural heritage, and align with their values of sustainability and ethical practices. VERDI is well-positioned to capitalize on these trends and establish itself as a unique and sought-after segment in the global luxury market.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
We are the creators of a unique type of rug that combines natural fibers with select materials to create contemporary textiles, remaining faithful to the Colombian artistic practices upon which our company was founded.
Our rugs are entirely custom-made in the design, color, and size desired. Clients can choose from materials such as fique, alpaca wool, horse hair, acrylic, and stainless steel. Fique, our main fiber, is sustainably sourced from a plant native to the Andean region of Colombia.
By reinventing Colombia’s ethnic mochilas into modern bucket bags, unique wristlets, and other sophisticated silhouettes, VERDI preserves the original mochila shape and name but re-thinks its traditional technique and materials. At our workshop, we use plantain fiber, organic silk, fishing line, leather, and silver-plated metals to craft bags that, taking up to 10 days to be knitted by hand or hand-woven on looms, are testaments to quality and luxury.
E.E: What estimations do you have for the beginning of 2024?
For 2024, at VERDI we aspire to increase our international presence by raising awareness of the value of artisanal work. Focusing our communications on the specialty of our craftsmanship and the unique value of our materials. We extend our vision by participating in design fairs, such as Salone del Mobile at Milan, in order to share our story internationally and expand our commercial reach. Giving us the opportunity to well portrait the impeccable work of our Colombian artisans and the unique finish of our hand-woven pieces.
