aRES Datensysteme develops and distributes software for the water supply and wastewater management industries. This has been their focus for over 30 years, with which they are very successful in the German-speaking region.
The company’s recipe for success is short decision-making paths from the customer’s request to the extension of the software to the provision of an update to the customer. For aRES Datensysteme, the satisfaction of users is the top priority. aRES Datensysteme accompanies them in their civil engineering projects, listen to them and develop solutions to problems together with them. Most of the improvements for the software result from these solutions.
Interview with Peter Mueller, Marketing & Product Management at aRES Datensysteme.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Peter Mueller: The water industry! For this, we offer solutions for the planning, documentation and management of wastewater networks and networks of pipelines (water, gas, electric, district heating, etc.). In summary, our focus is on the infrastructure located under the ground.
Our team consists of engineers and programmers. Out of 6 employees, half of them are engaged only in software development. So, the software is 100% “made in Germany” and meets the highest requirements for engineers.
Our customers are engineering offices and municipal wastewater companies. These include, for example, Germany’s largest sewer network operator and also engineering offices that have to plan, build and, of course, drain factory sites of internationally active automotive groups.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
P.M: In May 2023, we will release the current version of cseTools 2023. For this version, the topic “BIM” is very much in focus. Thus, with the new version we can plan wastewater networks BIM-compliant and integrate them into holistic BIM models.
As our “cseTools” are an extension for AutoCAD and BricsCAD, we are also very pleased to support the latest generation of Autodesk software, AutoCAD 2024 and Civil 3D 2024 with the new cseTools very early this year.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
P.M: Our main product is the “cseTools”. Here there are modules for sewer planning, pipeline planning, inventory, condition assessment and sewer rehabilitation. The portfolio also includes solutions for reading ALKIS data and for coordinate transformation.
In addition to our main brand, our solutions are also integrated into software packages of other well-known manufacturers. So also, in “RZI Tiefbau” as well as the in Germany very widespread “card_1”.
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
P.M: In German-speaking countries, there are few providers offering such technically sound and specialized industry software. Due to the introduction of “BIM” for infrastructure projects, only a few software products can keep up with the current developments.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
P.M: Internationally widely used CAD solutions such as AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation are also represented on the German-speaking market. However, they are increasingly losing importance due to their technical depth. In our case, the trend shows that more and more engineering offices want to replace these, often expensive and less innovative products, with technically sound software.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
P.M: Our two most innovative products are the software for sewer planning and software for sewer rehabilitation.
In the field of sewer planning, we did pioneer work more than 30 years ago and developed the first, graphics-supported CAD application in the German-speaking world.
In the field of sewer rehabilitation, we recognized the trend early on. The drainage networks in Germany, which were built after the 2nd World War, have reached their useful life and are increasingly in need of rehabilitation. Together with competent engineering companies, we have developed an innovative software that almost automatically evaluates the condition of the sewer and generates a cost comparison calculation for the rehabilitation.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?
P.M: This year we will successfully start with the new generation of our software and adapt it to current CAD versions at an early stage. Furthermore, we want to support ARES Commander as a basic CAD in addition to AutoCAD and BricsCAD this year. This will allow us to reach even more customers and make them happy ;-).
