Asma was founded in 1980 as a sole proprietorship and is now run as a family business in the 2nd generation. The company currently employs around 150 people in Austria/Weitra.
Asma manufactures rollers & wheels up to technical coatings or molded parts for special applications. These coatings are made of the highly wear-resistant plastic called polyurethane.
What are the main areas of activity of the company?
We supply our polyurethane elastomers to almost every sector of industry and business. The high-quality and durable products provide better resistance and longer service life in the metal, wood, paper industry, glass processing, textile processing, mining, packaging, precision mechanics, conveyor technology, solar/electronics and mechanical engineering products compared to classic rubber products.
What’s the news about new products/services?
We use a wide range of polyurethane formulations including Vulkollan. The hardness ranges from 10 Shore A to 75 Shore D. This gives us a large toolbox to deal with customer-specific applications. Furthermore, one of our specialties is that we manufacture products in quantities ranging from 1-900.000.
What are the ranges of products/services?
The global use of polyurethane materials requires special precautions in special cases. Extreme climatic conditions, long sea routes to the destination or a wide variety of load scenarios in other countries can take their toll on even the highest quality polyurethanes, unless – as is the case with asma – they are technically perfectly matched and tested. Innovation is a top priority for us.
What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
As previously mentioned, our polyurethanes are used in all industries and sectors. In particular, our products are used in agriculture, roller coasters, heavy duty rollers, machinery and mining.
What can you tell us about market trends?
The plastics industry is changing. Products are being manufactured in ways that save electricity/energy and conserve resources. Sustainability within the company and the recycling of our products are also important to us.
What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
Our “EasyPren” varnishing and oil application rollers for varnishing and oiling wooden panels, surfaces, etc. are one of our innovative product portfolios. Our polyurethane products have great advantages here due to their high resistance to edge marks and high resistance to various solvents.
Also worth mentioning are our membrane screens and screen elements. Satisfactory service life can be achieved even under extreme operating conditions.
What estimations do you have for 2024?
I think the next few years are generally uncertain times, whether geopolitically or economically, and we all have to grow with the challenges. We have many projects in progress where we are developing special applications for customers. This shows that we always want to impress with our innovation and quality.
