LUMITRONIX® is the specialist for LED lighting solutions and control. As a leading supplier for the manufacturing industry, they develop and produce both rigid and flexible LED assemblies at the facility in Hechingen. The company’s wide portfolio of LED modules and LED strips also includes the proper control technology. The hardware and software are also developed in-house by their embedded team. LUMITRONIX focuses on the quality and durability of our products. LUMITRONIX’s customers value their innovative strength and flexibility. In many cases the company develops and produces individually for their clients.
Interview with Paul Sparenborg, Sales Director at LUMITRONIX.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Paul Sparenborg: We are a supplier of LED solutions for the entire industry. Our highly efficient LED modules are used throughout the lighting sector. In addition to luminaire manufacturers, we also supply machinery and equipment manufacturers, especially producers of household appliances and medical technology. LEDs are used there for signaling or for design and effect lighting. Another relatively new application for LEDs in the UV-C range is cleaning disinfection. We offer ready-to-use UV-C solutions that disinfect surfaces in heavily frequented areas, for example.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
P.S: We are currently doing a lot in the field of flexible electronics. We recently developed a long-lasting RGBW LED strip where the LEDs can be individually controlled in colour and brightness. This technology is in demand in mechanical engineering, where, for example, specific light animation can be carried out for different work processes. Another new development that is attracting a lot of interest is our unique LumProtect® laminating process for protecting flexible LED strips and flexible surface modules. In our machine park, we laminate electronic assemblies with very thin polymer layers. This preserves the flexibility of the assembly and at the same time significantly increases the mechanical strength. Our lamination process safely protects the sensitive electronics from various environmental influences, such as humidity, a variety of chemicals and physical stress.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
P.S: Our product range can be divided into 5 areas: Rigid LED-modules, flexible LED-modules, control technology, UV-C-LED solutions and LumProtect® lamination. In addition to the standard portfolio, we offer customer-specific development and production services.
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
P.S: We have been working for many years in established markets, such as the lighting market with its well-known indoor and outdoor lighting applications. But we are not afraid of new markets either.
I have already briefly mentioned UV-C technologies. In the coming years, UV-C LEDs will be used in numerous everyday products. We have been working this market with our UV-C LED solutions since 2018 from the very beginning.
Another new market with high potential to grow further is Flexible Electronics. At our company, we equip various flexible substrates not only with LEDs, but also with other components such as sensors or batteries. This opens up completely new application possibilities, which we realise within the scope of development projects with our customers.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
P.S: In the lighting market, people’s health but also the impact on the environment are increasingly gaining importance. It is no longer enough to just save electricity with LED light. LEDs can do much more.
The “indoor generation” spends up to 90 % of its time indoors. This can have negative health consequences. With sophisticated Human Centric Light concepts, artificial light can be used to achieve positive effects for the human organism. The aim is to provide the right light, at the right place, at the right time, for the respective activities during the day. With our LED technologies, we enable highly efficient and dynamic light that makes people feel good.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
P.S: One fascinating application was our “LED light wallpaper” – a wallpaper that is now available for purchase at home improvement stores. We have assembled LEDs on paper as a substrate. The wallpaper can be applied with the usual wet glue and the LEDs light up controlled by an app.
