SCHEURER SWISS: Our unique offer includes: engineering services such as consulting, CAD construction, FEM calculations. We also offer the production of highly efficient fiber composite components. Regardless of the manufacturing technology, we also offer innovative technologies such as 3D printing. An important aspect of our offer is staffing / recruitment. We use our international network for this. We round off the offer with our tailor-made training courses in the field of fiber composite technology.
E.E: What’s the news for 2021 about new products?
SCHEURER SWISS: Scheurer Swiss is currently investing a lot of development work in the field of 3D printing of fiber composite materials. We are convinced that the printing technology has many advantages for various applications. As a result of this development work, for example, a new type of printed core material made of carbon fiber is available. We see possible applications for the very light core material in the space sector with so-called low-cost satellites. Unrestricted freedom of design is only one advantage of this development.
3D-printed tools are also available from us. Which cost-effective traditional autoclave hardened components produce. Up to 25 demouldings are possible with it. Often enough for motorsport applications.
We are currently working on printed threads. Thread printed directly in carbon material is an interesting solution for screw connections made of different materials (insulation). And in modern space travel, every gram of weight counts that you don’t have to transport into space.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
SCHEURER SWISS: We mainly manufacture custom products. From small motorsport components to 2.5m long rotor blades for wind tunnels or even 23m long carbon clock hands for the Royal Clock Tower in Mecca, we realize everything.
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
SCHEURER SWISS: Our approach is to transfer knowledge from motorsport to other areas such as aerospace, industry or the defense sector. The entire Scheurer Swiss management team has many years of professional experience from the top class of motorsport Formula-1. We see many positive signs that this intention will succeed. The markets mentioned are open to our input. The demand is increasing.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
SCHEURER SWISS: We are observing one main trend. The trend to reduce costs in the production of lightweight components. In the course of this, 3D printing and the use of thermoplastics become an important point. We are developing hybrid components more and more often. In which we combine traditional PrePreg technology with, for example, 3D printing.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2021?
SCHEURER SWISS: For the current year, the decisive factor will be how the measures against the pandemic develop. We very much hope that the situation will soon stabilize and that we will be able to return to the positive market development as we did in 2019. Basically, the composite market remains an exciting growth market.
