Interview with Heidi Happonen, Key Account Manager at Wastebook.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Heidi Happonen: Our aim is to help our customers upgrade their waste management and add competitive edge with waste data to meet the requirements of circular economy.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
H.H: Wastebook’s Jaete sensor is based on micro-radar, which is currently considered to be the most advanced level measurement technology on the market. This year we introduced the new 4G connectivity version of Jaete sensor and published a collect-on-demand app Smart Waste Bin to complete our smart service solution.
Our partner in Oulu has reported a growth in turnover of 19 % while operational costs have shrunken with – 37 % after switching to smart waste management. They have been able to serve 30 % more customers with the same fleet resources.
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active? What can you tell us about market trends?
H.H: The market for smart waste management has changed dramatically in recent years. The current legislation pushes for a strong increase in the recycling rate and at the same time logistics costs are soaring due to world political situation. Combined with the carbon emission reduction targets and more flexible waste collection schedules, this has accentuated the demand for smart waste management.
Sustainability and digitalization are reshaping the waste sector and Wastebook is providing the tools for change. Public actors and companies alike are committed to a greener and cleaner future which is difficult to reach without waste knowledge.
E.E: What estimations do you have for the rest of 2022?
H.H: We are currently working on resale and container manufacturer network on a European level. We expect to start new projects in Norway, Latvia and Italy by the end of the year. We’re also cooperating with one of the biggest container producers ESE Global.
