UPTIME INTERNATIONAL is the global leader in developing safe motion-compensated logistics solutions for sale and rental to the Offshore Wind and Oil & Gas industries.
Interview with Markus Hide, Sales Manager Services at UPTIME INTERNATIONAL.
A brief description of the company and its activities.
Markus Hide: Our company mission, “Increase UPTIME Through Safe Access”, reflects our dedication to delivering systems that prioritize safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
We are located in Haugesund and Aalesund, Norway – ideally positioned at the heart of Norway’s maritime cluster. Being based within this cluster keeps us closely connected to the offshore industry, allowing us to stay updated on industry trends and ensuring our solutions are always relevant and responsive to the real-world needs of our clients. Our focus is to deliver the most secure and reliable systems, designed to meet both current demands and future challenges in the market.
What are the main areas of activity of the company?
M.H: Our long-term proven walk-to-work logistics solutions include the following key features:
- Active motion compensation
- Artificial intelligence
- Autonomous landing
- Cargo flow through elevator tower using autonomous trolly’s
- 3D crane functionality on the gangway lifting 3ton/6ton
- UPTIME by Motus 3D standalone cranes
What’s the news about new products/services?
M.H: The Uptime Digital Ecosystem is designed to maximize operational efficiency and safety – while minimizing environmental impact.
The Ecosystem includes:
Uptime Control:
This system manages multiple degrees of motion between two floating objects simultaneously, providing precise control and stability. It enhances operations by enabling faster and safer gangway landings. Uptime Control utilizes advanced sensors, cameras, radar technology and machine learning to achieve the autonomous control and landing.
The system’s digital twin facilitates remote operations, automation, analysis, reporting and monitoring of both equipment and operations. It also offers predictive maintenance capabilities, managed by the operator on-site or remotely from onshore facilities.
Uptime Collaborate:
This cloud-based service functions as the central hub of the Uptime Digital Ecosystem, streamlining the planning and execution of operations. Uptime Collaborate integrates documented experiences and real-time data from other Ecosystem components. It leverages both current and historical data to analyse, enhance, and optimize performance across individual vessels and entire fleets. By reducing downtime through faster connections, more efficient logistics, and streamlined operations, Uptime Collaborate improves vessel operability and maximizes the efficiency.
Uptime Track:
Provides real-time digital tracking of personnel and equipment, enhancing both safety and operational oversight. Integrated with the control and cloud systems, it enables quick identification of deviations and bottlenecks in personnel or equipment movements. Continuous real-time tracking ensures complete visibility, complementing the traditional camera system for enhanced situational awareness.
Uptime Trolley:
An autonomous pallet robot engineered to transport goods and equipment, eliminating the need for manual handling. It is designed to ensure safer and more efficient operations, integrating seamlessly with other digital and physical platforms via Uptime Collaborate. The robot autonomously manages loading and unloading, with the goal of reducing the time and resources spent on logistics, allowing personnel to focus on core tasks.
What are the ranges of products/services?
M.H: We offer a broad range of electro-hydraulic and fully electric logistics systems, with lengths ranging from 23.4 to 57.5 meters. These systems are available in both active and passive motion-compensated configurations and feature AI capabilities for autonomous connections and landings.
We provide an in-house developed control system, featuring a digital platform that supports data collection, operational analysis, and remote access.
What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
M.H: We are experiencing consistent demand for Uptime products in the Oil & Gas sector, driven by the shift toward unmanned platforms that require reliable and efficient walk-to-work systems. The Offshore Wind sector is also seeing a rapid growth, spurred by a strong political support for the energy transition, which has led to a greater need for our solutions in the construction and maintenance of offshore installations.
What can you tell us about market trends?
M.H: Current market trends show a clear focus on automation and safety. In the Oil & Gas industry, the move toward unmanned platforms is increasing the demand for advanced, automated walk-to-work systems that ensure both safety and operational efficiency. In the Offshore Wind sector, the expansion of wind capacity is creating significant demand for motion-compensated systems that provide stable and safe access in challenging weather conditions. Both industries are prioritizing technology to meet the demands for operational efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
M.H: Our 30-meter Autonomous Follow-Target logistics system stands out as one of our most innovative offerings. This system integrates AI and crane functionality, allowing for precise control and autonomous operation. Available in both electro-hydraulic and fully electric configurations, it is designed to significantly improve safety and efficiency in challenging offshore environments, making it ideal for modern offshore operations.
What estimations do you have for 2025?
M.H: We expect steady growth in 2025. Our primary focus will continue to be on innovation, safety, reliability, and environmental sustainability.
By maintaining a close relationship with our customers, we aim to support the transition toward greener and more efficient offshore operations, and the long-term success for our clients.
