Cubenergy is an innovative manufacturer of C&l and utility-scale stationary Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). By integrating BESS with grid, PV, wind turbine, diesel generator and other sources of energy with self-developed Battery System. BMS and EMS, forming a series of standardized. all-in-one, integrally transportable and EPC-free ESS. The company follows the highest standards in manufacturing its products. The ESS products are certified in line with UL9540, UL9540A. NFPA855 etc. Cubenergy bankability reports facilitate developers to have the ESS projects well-funded and insured.
Interview with Chris Wu, Managing Director of Europe at Cubenergy.
How was 2024 for your business, a short summary?
Chris Wu: In 2024, Cubenergy expanded its global footprint in energy storage systems(ESS) deployment, supporting C&I, grid, and renewable integration projects across Europe and America. We strengthened our role in grid stability, participating in capacity markets and ancillary services. Key milestones included the delivery of multiple BESS projects, ongoing expansion of production facilities, and innovations of PowerCombo and FlexCombo for streamlined deployment. We also engaged in major exhibitions, reinforcing its presence in the energy storage sector and advancing its ESG commitments.
What new products/services will be launched this year?
C.W: We will launch FlexCombo– a scalable and modular solution optimized for a wide range of conditions and locations. It is designed with an easy augmentation feature to adapt evolving project requirements. Its DC/AC one-on-one topology, combined with a modular design, simplifies AC augmentation by enabling the addition of PCS units and new enclosures as needed.
This flexible approach supports incremental expansion of the system. By integrating two standardized FlexCombo units and two additional PCS to at each stage, the system’s capacity can be scaled up from 5000kWh to 8400kWh, ensuring 20 years of stable projects operation.

How did the market change in the last year?
C.W: In the past year, the market experienced a homogeneous BESS competition. Higher energy-density battery cabinets have been announced by BESS suppliers. The technology innovation competition is becoming the competition of how many batteries you can put in the container. However, the market has begun to think more realistically.
While such competition brings certain benefits, it also brings limitations. Building an energy storage power station is a complex integration of engineering and products, involving far more than just equipment procurement costs. Project CAPEX spans a wide range of expenses, from procurement to deployment to operation. If the industry continues along the same technological trajectory, it will slow down innovation in our industry.
What were the best-selling products of 2024?
C.W: The PowerCombo AC block was the best-selling product, explaining our philosophy in manufacturing, marketing and servicing:
- Time Efficiency: An all-in-one solution reduces the time required for on-site integration and testing, speeding up the overall deployment process.
- Simplified Logistics: With a single, pre-assembled unit, there is no need to wait for separate components to arrive and be integrated on-site.
- Reduced Complexity: An all-in-one system simplifies the installation process, reducing the chances of errors and minimizing the need for specialized expertise. FAT has been completed before delivery.
- Enhanced Reliability: Since the system is pre-tested and configured in the factory, it ensures a higher level of reliability and performance when deployed.
- Cost Savings: The reduction in installation time and complexity can lead to significant cost savings in labor, logistics and most important additional cost on site-integration.
- Streamlined Maintenance: Maintenance and support are more straightforward with a single, integrated system, making it easier to identify and resolve issues.
- Consistent Performance: An all-in-one solution is designed to work seamlessly as a cohesive unit, ensuring consistent and optimized performance.
What sector of business do you think is expected to grow this year?
C.W: The growth in C&I energy storage systems (ESS) is expected in this year. The current drivers are as follows:
- Regulatory incentives: Crucial for the initial adoption of ESS in a country.
- Cost optimization: Particularly for peak shaving and time shifting, which initially gained popularity in China and has since been introduced in Europe.
- Battery cell cost reduction: Battery cells constitute the largest portion of ESS costs and saw significant reductions in 2024.
- Renewable energy integration: Extensive installations of wind turbines and photovoltaic (PV) systems in Europe have driven ESS growth.
- Frequency regulations: Large-scale C&I behind-the-meter (BTM) installations, ranging from 1 MW to 30 MW, play a vital role in frequency regulations, particularly in Nordic countries and Eastern Europe, ensuring a high-quality national grid.

What estimations do you have for 2025?
C.W: For 2025, Cubenergy is expected to continue expanding its presence in the global BESS market, focusing on key areas:
- Scaling BESS Deployments – With the increasing demand for grid stability and renewable integration, Cubenergy is likely to deliver more BESS projects, particularly in Europe and America. Expansion in capacity markets and ancillary services such as frequency response and reserve power is anticipated.
- Advancing Modular and Pre-Assembled Solutions – The success of PowerCombo and FlexCombo suggests further optimization and innovation in modular, plug-and-play BESS solutions to simplify deployment and lower costs.
- Strengthening O&M and Digital Services – Cubenergy is expected to enhance its O&M platform, providing more advanced monitoring, predictive maintenance, and seamless EMS integration to improve efficiency and performance.
- Market and Regulatory Adaptation – Given evolving policies and incentives for energy storage, Cubenergy may further align its strategies with new regulations, ensuring compliance with standards like NFPA 855 and UL9540 while leveraging emerging energy market opportunities.
- Increased Focus on Sustainability and ESG – Aligning with global climate targets, Cubenergy is expected to reinforce its ESG commitments by improving lifecycle management, optimizing energy efficiency, and contributing to decarbonization efforts.
