Interview with Alfredo Spinozzi, CEO of TMT International.
Easy Engineering: A brief description of the company and its activities.
Alfredo Spinozzi: Since 2014, TMT International has been under the leadership of Alfredo and Gianluca Spinozzi and is experiencing a new phase of development, thanks to strong growth both in Italy and abroad. Confirming this is a continuous increase in turnover. The renowned edition “Financial times” recognized TMT International as a growth leader due to the exponential increase in sales (+2,095.7% from 2018 to 2019), at 52th place out of 1000 companies throughout the European territory. In 2023, turnover reached 20 million, testifying to our constant growth and notable economic development.
We define ourselves as Tanks & Trailers creators, because we are able to start from zero to create the perfect, tailor-made product. From this foundation comes the determination to provide our customers with unique and cutting-edge products through continuous innovation, the search for high-quality materials, high safety controls, excellent and accurate workmanship. The quality and innovativeness of our products has been recognized by several awards, including the famous Trailer Innovation Award for the “Body” category received in 2023.
E.E: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
A.S: Our core business is reflected in innovative products for the transport sector, such as self-supporting or continuous-frame semi-trailers (with or without side doors) and containers moving floor. Our range also extends to tanks for fuel, waste oil and L4BH waste tanks.
In all these areas, experience, flexibility, quality and creativity have guaranteed the best service to respond to the needs of the global market. TMT has always paid great attention to ensuring high control standards at every stage of the production process to guarantee the certified quality, great safety and established reliability of its products.
One of the keys to TMT’s success is a wide range of services offered to its customers, first and foremost, dedicated after-sales assistance. In the field of semi-trailers and, in particular in that of moving floors, the complexity of the technologies used requires a dedicated staff who can interface with the customer and find the most correct and rapid solution.
E.E: What’s the news about new products/services?
A.S: As an innovative company, TMT International constantly invests in the future, allocating 2% of its annual turnover to research and development. The TMT R&D department hosts a team of engineers dedicated to the continuous research of innovative technical solutions, especially within our core business, i.e. self-supporting or continuous-frame semi-trailers (with or without side doors) and containers moving floor. Our products represent a real revolution in the sector. In fact, they have been recognized with famous awards, “Technological innovation” at Ecomondo 2019 and the “Trailer Innovation Award 2023” in the “Body” category.
During 2021, we have developed numerous projects, including a common platform to standardize chassis to various suspensions, a self-propelled rigid cover for semi-trailers moving floor, an aluminum profile sidewall matrix, a waste transfer system from compactors to moving floor semi-trailers, a structural prototype in carbon fiber, TMT Trailer Master Technology 4.0 technology for monitoring and remote control of the vehicle, containers with Mooving floor inside.
One of the innovative solutions is TMT Conchiglia Intermodale MF, which allows you to reduce the environmental impact, thanks to its versatility of use. Designed for combined road-sea-rail transport, it is compatible with P400 routes and C-D-E-F-G-H I wagons, with 98 cm harness. Complies with the UIC596-5 (Huckepack) standard, equipped with pneumatic tipping bumper and IM0 A.581 road-sea approved.
E.E: What are the ranges of products/services?
A.S: The TMT International product range includes 11 products that can be made in various configurations. We offer nine types of moving floor semi-trailers: Conchiglia, Intermodale, Green Moving floor, Leakproof, Side doors, Scrigno, Container, Acarium, and three types of tankers for the transport of waste, fuel and used oils.
Currently, our most requested product due to its multifunctionality and efficiency is the Conchiglia model moving floor semi-trailer. Its self-supporting Strenx 700 steel frame guarantees strength and lightness. Flexible for different types of transport, from pallets to bulk materials, with a load capacity of 92 m3 and an internal useful length of 13,400 mm. Another top product is TMT Scrigno. The moving floor semi-trailer offers a total lateral opening of 12.30 m and a continuous loading height of 2.5 m. The versatility and flexibility allow the transport of long items without problems.
A true innovation for transport is the Moving floor container, the winner of two awards: “Trailer Innovation Award” at IAA Hannover 2023 and “Technological Innovation” at Ecomondo Rimini 2019. 45′, High Cube, Open Top, Pallet Wide and in S-400 is perfect for combined transport by road, sea and rail, with a loading volume of 89 m3 / 33 Euro pallets and stackable up to 3 containers. The added value of our container consists in the installation of a horizontal loading and unloading system, allowing you to save time and increase profit.
E.E: What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
A.S: In contrast with the trailer market, we encountered a positive trend in the moving floor semi-trailer segment with a progressive growth in registered vehicles starting from the second half of 2023. Despite a slight contraction in sales at a European level in March-April 2024, TMT International confirms its position compared to the previous year. We are confident in the positive development of the market which is slowly recovering the losses suffered after the decline in 2022 linked to the decline in transport.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends? What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
A.S: Today all manufacturers are moving towards green solutions that can reduce environmental impact and in particular CO2 emissions. In the transport field, for example, we try to favor logistical solutions that allow us to optimize routes or modes of transport. In fact, for intermodal transport we have developed the TMT Conchiglia Intermodale MF, which allows us to reduce the environmental impact, thanks to its versatility of use. Designed for combined road-sea-rail transport, it is compatible with P400 routes and C-D-E-F-G-H I wagons, with 98 cm harness.
Another trend is the electrification of semi-trailers, making electromobility possible for trucks too. The main idea consists of integrating an electric motor into the axles of the semi-trailer, which will no longer simply move passively. This solution allows electricity to be regenerated during braking by sending it to the trailer power unit. The result: energy savings and zero emissions. We have also moved in this direction and have developed an electric axle for semi-trailers.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2024?
A.S: Despite a decline in the overall trailer market, the moving floor sector continues to grow and we are confident that the market will increasingly shift towards this type of product. We are extremely satisfied with these results which confirm our constant commitment to the pursuit of excellence and innovation. This motivates us to improve and promptly adapt our products to the changing needs of the market, guaranteeing cutting-edge solutions that are always in line with our customers’ expectations.
