INTERVIEW WITH WIESE EUROPE

Wiese Europe is a well-established family business with over 30 years of experience in the transfer of liquids and gasses with a specialization in chemicals and hazardous products.

The company provides a full range of loading arms, folding stairs and safety cages for all different applications, which can be altered to clients’ specific needs. In addition to the engineering and production of said items, they also provide maintenance, overhauls and inspections. Wiese Europe does this for all brands of loading and safety systems.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

WIESE EUROPE: Wiese Europe is active in a wide variety of areas. The main industrial branches we serve are as follows:

  • Chemical industry
  • Petrochemicals
  • Food industry
  • Mining
  • Recycling and environmental industry

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

WIESE EUROPE: We are constantly improving our products to follow industry guidelines as well as European regulations. The further development of our products can be to either aid operability or safety. A specific product that has gained interest as of late are our fully automated loading arms. These can be guided to the manhole from the loading platform. Making them ideal when working with chemical products.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

WIESE EUROPE: Our product range includes loading arms, for (un)loading trucks, trains and ships. We can manage just about every product at any temperature and pressure. Along with that we also provide safety and access systems to make the loading process as safe as possible. For this we have folding stairs that can be accompanied with a cage. Within this area we do a lot of customizations to fit the exact needs our customers have.

Consecutively we notice an increase in our engineering activities. A lot of work is being done in existing situations which requires a thorough preparation to implement and adapt the equipment where needed. A vast experience in past projects and out-of-the-box thinking can give the project a head start to avoid unpleasant surprises during the execution phase.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

WIESE EUROPE: The market we serve is never at one single stage. There is a constant evolution on numerous specific nuances within the market. We take pride in being able to adapt to these changes and serve our customers accordingly.

As our activities consist both of new projects, as well as refurbishments, maintenance and repairs we always see fluctuations between these.

Whenever new projects are postponed (as in past Covid-times), the existing equipment needs to be maintained and service lives need to be stretched, causing a rise in those activities.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

WIESE EUROPE: On the one hand safety remains an ever increasing point of attention.

Where it used to be only the chemical businesses investing in safety improvements, others industries have picked up and are making a catch up.

The days where operators jumped on trucks with merely a lifeline are gradually behind us and we see improvements everywhere going from standard folding stairs for access, to fully integrated solutions where loading arms, folding stairs and safety systems come together as one.

On the other hand, also availability and therefore reliability of the equipment is becoming more and more important. More diversity in products and a more competitive market for our customers require a shift of mindset.

We see customers really making a decision to move away from low cost equipment with associated issues and paying more attention to the overall cost of ownership during the lifetime of the equipment.

As a final trend we also see this coming back in environmental demands.

Zero leakage swivel joints and the avoidance of product spills are on top of the list in order to continuously improve the image of ‘the polluting industry’.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

WIESE EUROPE: Some of our most notable products are out vertically moving safety cages and fully pneumatical loading arms. We feel these have the largest impact on safety within an industrial setting. The vertical safety cage ensures a consistent safeguarding of the operator during the loading process. The pneumatic loading arms provide the option of positioning the arm in the manhole without having to come close to the potentially hazardous products.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

WIESE EUROPE:  We have good prospects for next year. After the last 2 years being not bad, but mainly unpredictable due to Covid impact, several projects budgeted for 2022 are now coming into execution phase and will definitely start up next year.

The main challenge will be to make the bills add up, with the current market situation of raw materials being more difficult to obtain, and prices being very unpredictable.
