INTERVIEW WITH INION SOFTWARE

Inion Software is a IoT Lithuanian start-up that has developed monitoring solutions for PV plants and energy management systems for battery management. The company is started and run by engineering pros with solid academic backgrounds. Inion is driven by an ambition for a global presence and the idea of making things most efficient with existing resources.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Inion Software: Inion focuses on solar energy generation management and battery control. The company is developing a Green Infra concept, which connects green energy producers to green energy users in real time. The platform allows remote control of solar plants and builds battery charging plans. Inion software is integrating electrical vehicles into this solution to use it as a battery.

Current Inion software offer is not only used by big utility-scale PV plants, but also by residential ones. That cost-effective solution allows to develop battery management for residential battery owners as well as for battery farms.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

Inion Software: Battery control got much smarter with Inion’s AI prediction algorithms, where energy savings can reach additional 30%.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

Inion Software: A set of PV plant and battery management loges and a software platform.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

Inion Software:In 2021 the solar market has reached $180 billion (EU $40 billion). The global Solar market is growing fast by more than 10% per year. Rising prices for electricity and the EU’s decision to be independent from Russian gas will accelerate the growth of the solar market even more.

In 2020 smart solar market reached $13 billion.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

Inion Software: Experts predict solar power plants will become more intelligent. Also, use of batteries is crucial for PV systems connected to the grid. Therefore, the boost for battery usage is expected.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

Inion Software: One of the most innovative products is the intelligent battery. It can store the electricity generated by the solar plant and use cheaper electricity from the grid.

The battery in the power plant system can be managed more intelligently. Solar power plant loggers analyze differences in electricity prices on the market and manage the battery to store cheaper electricity from the grid. In many countries, the cost of electricity is much lower during off-peak periods, so it is possible to take advantage of this opportunity. For example, an innovative solar logger with a battery can connect to the grid and store the cheapest energy at the best time when the solar plant is of little use in winter. Electricity is usually most affordable at night, so the battery would be able to recharge at minimal cost during that time. If there is still a shortage and it is not receiving solar power, it will recharge during the day at a fixed time.

Special programs and algorithms are used to ensure that everything runs like clockwork and that the battery reacts to different conditions and changes in grid prices.

If you own or are thinking of buying an electric car, the cost of electricity is crucial. Therefore, a solar power plant with an intelligent battery connected to it will soon not only allow you to charge it at minimal or no cost but also to extract excess energy from it. The car will then become a battery of sorts. For example, if you charge it overnight with cheap electricity, you can put the excess back on the grid when you get to the office. This intelligent and economical energy use will become part of the smart home and ecology.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

Inion Software: For Inion Software 2022 will be the company’s most productive year in its relatively short history. We tripled our turnover in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 (353%). The company’s sales in the first half of 2022 exceeded EUR 134 thousand and are expected to reach EUR 360 thousand by the end of this year.
