Interview with Kenneth Dalsgaard, CEO of Amperetta.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Kenneth Dalsgaard: Our journey began with a vision to revolutionize the marine industry. By utilizing available, reliable automotive components and technology, Amperetta has developed the lightest, most compact, and most efficient plug-in marine hybrid drive for boats with inboard engines, reducing fuel and CO2 by 40% to 60% and extending the lifetime of the combustion engine.
E.E: What are the ranges of products? What’s the news about new products?
K.D: With an industry-leading 96% efficiency, Amperetta offers a superior, reliable, modular, easy-to-install, and safe marine hybrid drive utilizing available.
We offer a 20kW and a 50kW system, and in 2024, we will launch a 100kW version.
We launched the product at the Cannes Yachting Festival and again at METS this week in Amsterdam.
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
K.D: Hybrid marine technology is new to the maritime industry. However, at METS, it has become clear that hybrid technology has a rapidly growing market. Pure electric propulsion has its apparent limits. With a fully integrated hybrid system, you can seamlessly use electric and combustion propulsion when needed.
UN’s overarching goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050—the Maritime Sector accounts for 2% of the total global CO2 emission. The sector aims to reduce at least 40% by 2030 and 70% by 2050, compared to 2008. This can only be done efficiently by utilizing several different technologies simultaneously.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
K.D: The Market trend and innovations are technology to reduce CO2 and operating costs. For the past few years, new pure electric propulsion has been the talk of the town. Now, it’s hybrid technology and other CO2-reducing technologies like engines with lower fuel consumption, exhaust filters to reduce emissions, propellor efficiency, etc. The most innovative product is hybrid technology.
E.E: What estimations do you have for the rest of 2023?
K.D: 2023 is almost over, but for 2024, we expect rapid growth in hybrid technology for new boats and retrofits.
