Thomas Westerhoven, Commercial Director at Logisoft, discusses the company’s modular automation philosophy, Central and Eastern European market growth, and a five-story e-commerce warehouse project currently in commissioning in Sofia.
A brief description of the company and its activities.
Thomas Westerhoven: Founded in 1997 in Sofia, Bulgaria, Logisoft is an award-winning family engineering and automation company with over 29 years of experience in industrial automation and intralogistics. As a full-service, turnkey intralogistics partner, we manage the entire project lifecycle in-house: from concept design, CAD mechanical modeling and EPLAN electrical engineering, to industrial PLC software development, HMI visualization, installation, commissioning and 24/7 support.
With over 150 successful projects implemented across 21+ European countries, our core roots lie in industrial software development. For the past few years, we have specialized in custom conveyor systems, automated DWS parcel sorting and multi-level conveyor solutions for order and bin handling for courier, parcel delivery, 3PL, e-commerce, retailers and multinational manufacturers (e.g. DPD, Mondelez, eBag or Siemens).
What are the main areas of activity of the company?
T.W: Logisoft originated in the field of “traditional” industrial automation covering projects amongst others in process, factory or intralogistics automation.
In more recent years, our focus has now shifted exclusively to the field of innovative intralogistics automation. We operate across three primary business pillars:
- Courier, Express & Parcel (CEP) Hub Automation: Engineering high-speed parcel sortation lines, dynamic Dimensioning, Weighing and Scanning (DWS) stations and multi-line hub sorting loops capable of processing up to 5,000+ parcels per hour.
- E-Commerce & Retail Intralogistics: Designing multi-level conveyor systems, automated order buffering, checkout/commissioning lines and tote handling systems tailored for online grocery and retail fulfillment.
- Industrial & Manufacturing: Implementing robotic pick-and-place solutions, smart tote buffering based on our patented Logisoft conveyor shuttle or connecting production steps inside manufacturing facilities.

What’s the news about new products/services?
T.W: Our focus is to continue providing complete, integrated automation solutions rather than standalone equipment. In the future, we will further expand our product portfolio of modular, smart and yet cost-effective automation solutions. Our three biggest pieces of news from the most recent months are:
- Patented Logisoft Conveyor Shuttle: Described as one of the most exciting highlights of this year’s LogiMAT exhibition, our EU-patent-pending innovation is a “mole-type” conveyor driven shuttle that travels underneath plastic totes without requiring complex lifting or telescoping mechanisms, providing an exceptionally compact cost-effective tote buffering solution for in-aisle storage.
- Logisoft ZigZag Sorter: Tested already at an installation last year, our newly released and upgraded sorting innovation optimized for small parcels up to 5 kg can reach throughputs of up to 5,000 parcels/hour. All this is based on our modular conveyor system, with integrated DWS and HMI diagnostics modules, without the need for standalone diverter hardware.
- Five-Story E-Commerce Facility Project: The kick-off of a major multi-level warehouse project featuring 12m+ vertical continuous lifts, our in-house developed shuttle system with motorized buffer storage and hundreds of meters of dual-level conveyor lines for both full and empty tote handling. More on this soon!
What are the ranges of products/services?
T.W: We design, build and commission turnkey intralogistics systems for four core areas:
(1) Conveyor and Material Handling Systems – we developed and patented our very own conveyor elements to build modular, multi-level conveyor lines for handling parcels, boxes and totes;
(2) Sorting & DWS Systems – high-speed sortation (Conveyor and ZigZag sorters) combined with our own Dynamic Dimension-Weighing-Scanning (DWS) units that capture size, weight and barcode in milliseconds;
(3) Order & Product Handling – multi-level bin/tote handling incl. vertical lifts and conveyor spirals, with automated weight control and robotic tote handling and buffering;
(4) Our patented Logisoft Conveyor Shuttle – for smart, compact and cost-effective tote and order buffering (no lifting or telescoping mechanisms needed). At LogiMAT 2026, supply chain publisher SITQ named our invention the most exciting innovation for this year’s LogiMAT.
For all our systems, we apply our in-house developed HMI Diagnostics & Controls module incl. digital twin application for real-time system monitoring with 100% onsite-operator support – no need for external, costly support contracts.

What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
T.W: The intralogistics and warehouse automation market remains very dynamic. In Europe, demand continues to grow, driven by the rapid expansion of e-commerce, labor shortages, increasing customer expectations for faster deliveries and the need for greater operational efficiency. Companies are investing in automation to improve productivity, reduce operating costs and build more resilient supply chains.
Central and Eastern Europe remains one of the fastest-growing regions for logistics and warehouse automation investments, creating significant opportunities for innovative engineering companies.
We focus on markets, such as Bulgaria, Romania or Greece, but also Germany, where we are seeing strong growth potential for smart automation. Modern operators increasingly favor flexible, high-ROI automation that fits into compact or mid-sized distribution hubs instead of complex and rigid solutions. This is exactly the space where we, at Logisoft, come in.
What can you tell us about market trends?
T.W: First, e-commerce continues to be the single biggest demand driver for sortation and DWS technology, as retailers and couriers need to process more parcels per hour with fewer manual touches.
Second, labor shortage in logistics and warehousing is accelerating automation adoption across Central and Eastern Europe, not just Western markets.
Third, operators increasingly favor modular, scalable systems – able to add lines, exits or capacity to a running installation – over rigid, one-off builds, because peak volumes fluctuate sharply.
Fourth, real-time diagnostics, remote monitoring and easy integration with WMS/ERP platforms are becoming standard expectations, not premium add-ons.
Finally, there’s growing interest in energy-efficient conveyor logic and compact footprints, as warehouse space and energy costs both rise. Zero Pressure Accumulation becomes the norm. We are also seeing a price increase in raw materials, such as aluminum, putting some pressure on project budgets.

What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
T.W: If I had to single out our most innovative product, it would probably be our newly released Logisoft shuttle. The patented “mole-like” conveyor shuttle moves beneath a plastic tote or box to transport it, without any lifting or telescoping mechanism. This is a very innovative, yet much simpler and more cost-effective alternative to classic shuttle/lift systems for tote buffering and longer transport distances.
After the LogiMAT exhibition in Stuttgart at the beginning of this year, we are further expanding various concepts and ideas as part of our ongoing internal R&D engineering efforts. The next step is planned to be a smart and very compact sorting solution based on our conveyor shuttle. Our long-term goal is to develop a full-fledged warehouse automation solution for plastic totes and bins similar to an AutoStore solution, but with lower initial investment costs. However, for this, we probably need another year or two.
What estimations do you have for the second half of 2026?
T.W: We expect continued strong project demand in H2 2026, particularly from courier/parcel and e-commerce operators preparing capacity ahead of the year-end peak season. We are currently executing a five-floor automation project for an e-commerce warehouse in Sofia with the commissioning phase planned soon. For our major existing clients, we expect to further expand existing hub automation projects based on our modular conveyor systems. We anticipate growing interest specifically in our newer products – the ZigZag sorter and shuttle-based tote buffering – as clients look for lower-cost, more effective and modular alternatives to large and complex systems.
In general, we expect customers to increasingly seek long-term engineering partners capable of delivering complete automation projects – from concept and design to commissioning, service and lifecycle support.
With all this in mind, we remain positioned as a strong regional partner for companies seeking reliable, smart, future-proofed and operator-friendly intralogistics automation.
