Interview with Rokossa Colin, CEO of Camina & Schmid.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Rokossa Colin: Our products are manufactured in our production facility in Rathenow near Berlin. We source our materials for this mainly from Germany and Europe. The products are shipped via our main headquarter in Bissendorf, Osnabrück. As we are a B2B distributor, we sell exclusively to specialized dealers and stove heating installers. In addition to the manufacturing process of our existing range, we develop innovation and efficient solutions in our own test laboratory with product managers and designers. We also see ourselves in the task of educational work in the areas of the resource wood and forestry.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
R.C: At the moment, we are focusing on heat storage, catalytic converters and combustion control systems. We can greatly reduce the nominal heat output of fireplaces with a large viewing pane by using certain construction methods for heat storage. This means that fireplaces can also be installed in heavily insulated new buildings, because the room in which they are installed cannot overheat. In addition, there is no need to do without a cozy ambience and an environmentally friendly heat source. Catalytic converters and combustion control systems offer the possibility of further reducing particulate matter and ensuring greater safety for the user of the fireplace.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
R.C: We offer wood fireplace inserts, gas fireplace inserts, basic stoves, heating inserts, fireplace cassettes, system fireplaces and the right accessories for every range.
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
R.C: Due to the political situation and the desire for independence from fossil fuels, the market for fireplaces has regained importance, relevance and trust. The demand has increased enormously. Fireplaces have no longer only had the task of creating a cozy ambience, but can also play an important role in a house’s energy sources. In addition, improvements are constantly being made to fine dust emissions and products, so that they can definitely be perceived as a renewable energy source.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
R.C: As already anticipated in the previous question, fireplaces are again being perceived as a more important source of energy in a house. Due to the large forest areas and the associated sustainable forest management in Europe, fireplaces offer us a certain amount of independence in the field of energy supply.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
R.C: When it comes to a fireplace, it is not only possible to create an innovation with the pure product. The entire construction of the fireplace system is included. Building fireplaces is a craft with many possibilities. The most innovative solutions should include the use of combustion controls, closed construction methods with additional ceramic trains, devices with hot water preparation and devices in which catalysts and electrostatic precipitators are used.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?
R.C: Due to exchange obligations in Germany, we expect a renewed increase in demand. In addition, we also expect political developments to continue to be positive for us. Overall, we see the market as stable and assume that this will remain so in the future. We are very optimistic that the energy supply will develop positively.
