Mitrex is a Canadian company that has developed ways for aesthetically pleasing solar panels to be directly integrated into building facades. Their innovative Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) systems offer architects, engineers, building owners, and investors the opportunity to embrace and profit from solar energy without compromising beauty.
Mitrex offers a wide variety of products, including solar facades, solar railing, colored solar roof, solar glass, solar modules, and others. These highly-efficient solar-powered products serve the big mission – to be the catalyst that accelerates the adoption of sustainable, energy-generating, human-made structures.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
MITREX: While offering a wide range of solar-powered products, our main focus falls on Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) systems and colored and standard solar panels. When it comes to BIPV production, Mitrex is recognized to be the largest BIPV manufacturer in North America.
These products are one-of-a-kind systems that allow for impressive application flexibility.
Mitrex cladding panels (BIPV) are an energy-efficient solution for both existing and new facades – they feature standard installation systems and can achieve the look of any surface material, pattern, texture, or image desired, including granite, porcelain, brick, wood, or customized graphics.
Mitrex colored solar roof allows homeowners to start generating green energy without compromising the beauty of the existing roof. Spanish clay or asphalt – our solar panels blend in with the existing roof creating a uniform, seamless look while generating up to 350W of energy. Moreover, they feature UV-stable, fade-resistant colors, which guarantees an attractive, energy-generating roof for many years.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
MITREX: At Mitrex, we work hard to ensure continuous improvement in everything we do and every product we develop. We are always delighted to share our achievements and milestones.
Thus, in January 2023, Mitrex received California Energy Commission’s (CEC) listing for colored solar panels. Mitrex’s products have undergone bankability testing that assesses the extended performance of photovoltaic modules, in addition to being listed by CEC, NY-Sun, and FSEC.
Furthermore, Mitrex was pleased to announce the introduction of the world’s first fire-tested BIPV, which has successfully completed the most challenging fire safety tests in the industry. The tests were carried out by prominent fire safety organizations, such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 285 and the European Union’s EN 13501-1, and the product has been classified as A2-s1,d0.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
MITREX: At Mitrex, we believe that Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and solar energy generation itself are the future of our society, and our goal is to accelerate the adoption of sustainable, energy-generating, human-made structures worldwide. While planning on expanding our borders and bringing our innovative solutions to other regions, we are now focused on two main markets – Canada and the USA.
Mitrex Sales Offices are located in Toronto (Head Office), Los Angeles, and New York, while Mitrex products are also offered in a range of distribution centers in many regions of the US and Canada, such as CED Greentech Florida, Southwest, and more.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
MITREX: The market trends for solar products in the US and Canada have been rapidly increasing in recent years. Solar energy has become more affordable and accessible due to the decreasing costs of solar panels and technological advancements. The US and Canada have been the largest markets for solar power generation and have seen significant growth in the number of installations. In the US, solar power is expected to account for around 20% of electricity generation by 2030, up from 3% in 2020. In Canada as well as worldwide, governments aim to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and solar power is a critical component of this goal.
Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and colored solar panels have gained significant attention in recent years due to their potential to combine renewable energy generation with architectural design. The current market trend for BIPV and colored solar panels is positive and is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. The increasing demand for sustainable building materials and renewable energy solutions, coupled with the decreasing cost of solar panels and advancements in technology, are driving the growth of the market. Additionally, the trend towards green buildings and the need for energy-efficient structures are expected to boost the demand for BIPV and colored solar panels.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
MITREX: Mitrex Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) is a highly innovative system that offers a unique combination of design flexibility, high energy efficiency, and long-lasting performance. One of the key features of Mitrex BIPV is its ability to seamlessly integrate into a building’s architecture, replacing traditional building materials with solar panels that generate electricity while providing insulation and weather protection. Mitrex BIPV products are also highly customizable, allowing architects and builders to incorporate unique designs and patterns into the solar panels to create a visually appealing and functional facade.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?
MITREX: Based on current trends and estimations, it is expected that the solar industry will continue to experience significant growth in 2023. This growth is driven by a combination of factors, including increasing demand for renewable energy, declining costs of solar technology, and government policies supporting the expansion of solar energy production. The deployment of solar products is expected to continue to increase in both residential and commercial settings, with a particular emphasis on large-scale solar projects.
Additionally, advancements in technology are making Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) systems more efficient and cost-effective, which is likely to further fuel demand. It is also anticipated that there will be a significant increase in the deployment of BIPV systems not only in the North American region but also in emerging economies, particularly in Asia and the Middle East, as countries seek to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and meet their climate goals. Overall, the outlook for the solar industry in 2023 is promising, with continued growth and expansion expected in the coming years.
