DIGITAL LOCKOUT TAGOUT & MAINTENANCE SOFTWARE: LIGHTSTREAM

LightStream, a Belgian engineering firm specializing in industrial electrical systems, automation, and software, is bridging the gap between field operations and digital asset data. To reduce downtime and improve technician safety, the company developed IsoLedger for digital Lockout Tagout (LOTO) workflows and CabinetManager for instant documentation retrieval at the electrical cabinet.

Dylan Caufrier, Founder & CEO of LightStream, details the integration of engineering data with safety procedures, the role of mobile access and AR in maintenance, and the company’s international expansion strategy.

A brief description of the company and its activities

Dylan Caufrier: LightStream is a Belgian engineering company focused on industrial electrical engineering, automation and digitalisation. We support industrial customers from design and engineering through implementation and optimisation, with a strong focus on electrical distribution, control systems, machine safety and maintenance efficiency.

Over the years, our activities have increasingly moved beyond traditional engineering. We combine engineering know-how with software development to solve recurring problems we encounter in the field: technicians losing time searching for information, fragmented documentation, complex isolation procedures and the growing challenge of transferring technical knowledge efficiently.

What are the main areas of activity of the company?

D.C: Our core activities are industrial electrical engineering, automation and digital solutions for maintenance and safety. On the engineering side, this includes LV and HV distribution, electrical design, PLC hardware, drives, industrial networks, cable calculations, arc-flash studies and engineering support for new installations and revamps.

In parallel, we develop digital tools that make technical information easier to access and daily maintenance activities safer and more efficient. The common denominator is simple: reducing complexity for the people who actually have to work on the installation.

What’s the news about new products/services?

D.C: The most important recent development is IsoLedger, our digital platform for Lockout Tagout and safe electrical isolation. IsoLedger is designed to unlock a new level of safety by making isolation procedures asset-specific, structured, traceable and easy to execute in the field.

Its real strength is the ecosystem around it. IsoLedger can be combined with CabinetManager, our platform for fast access to electrical documentation and asset information. In the future, FieldLedger will further extend that ecosystem. Our ambition is to create one connected suite that supports the daily reality of maintenance technicians, facilitates digitalisation and increases maintenance efficiency without adding another layer of complexity.

Rather than introducing isolated software tools, we want information, safety procedures and field activities to work together around the same installation and assets.

What are the ranges of products/services?

D.C: LightStream operates on two complementary levels.

The first is engineering and consultancy. We support customers with electrical design, LV and HV systems, PLC and automation hardware, industrial networks, calculations, safety studies, technical specifications, project preparation and engineering support.

The second is industrial software. CabinetManager gives technicians direct access to the correct electrical documentation and asset information at the cabinet or machine. IsoLedger digitalises Lockout Tagout and electrical isolation workflows, with a strong focus on safety, consistency and traceability. These platforms are designed to work together and will gradually form a broader suite for maintenance and field operations.

This combination is important to us. We do not develop software from a purely IT perspective. The tools originate from problems we encounter ourselves in industrial environments, which keeps the focus on practical usability.

What is the state of the market where you are currently active?

D.C: The industrial market is clearly moving towards more digital and connected maintenance, but adoption is not uniform. Many companies still work with a combination of paper procedures, shared folders, PDF files, local knowledge and separate software systems. At the same time, installations are becoming more complex and experienced technical profiles are increasingly difficult to find.

That creates demand for solutions that make the right information available at the right moment and in the right context.

Augmented Reality is a good example. We see AR as an emerging market with significant potential, especially for contextual information, troubleshooting and guided interventions. But it should not be a reason to postpone digitalisation. Value can already be created today through QR codes, tablets, mobile devices and structured asset data. AR is an additional interface, not a prerequisite for getting started.

What can you tell us about market trends?

D.C: Robotics, automation and increasingly autonomous production systems are obvious trends. But every new layer of technology also increases the complexity that maintenance teams have to manage.

A technician is no longer dealing with an isolated electrical cabinet. Today it is an interconnected environment of PLCs, drives, safety systems, networks, robots, data platforms and increasingly complex energy systems. At the same time, companies expect shorter downtimes, better traceability and higher safety standards.

That is exactly where we see the strongest opportunity. CabinetManager reduces time lost searching for information and gives technicians immediate access to the right technical context. IsoLedger brings structure and traceability to isolation and Lockout Tagout procedures. Both address the same underlying need: making complex industrial environments manageable for the people responsible for keeping them running.

What are the most innovative products/services marketed?

D.C: CabinetManager and IsoLedger are currently our most innovative products, especially when used together.

CabinetManager connects the physical installation with its digital information. A technician can identify an asset and immediately access the relevant documentation and technical context. IsoLedger adds the safety layer by guiding and documenting the isolation process around that same installation.

The innovation is therefore not only in technologies such as QR, mobile access or Augmented Reality. It is in connecting engineering data, field information and safety workflows into one practical environment. That is also the direction in which we want to further develop the suite with FieldLedger.

What estimations do you have for the second half of 2026?

D.C: For LightStream, 2026 is already a successful year, and at this stage we see no reason for that momentum to slow down. Interest in both our engineering activities and digital platforms is strong, while discussions around maintenance efficiency, safety and digitalisation are becoming increasingly concrete.

At the same time, Europe cannot ignore the broader context. Political uncertainty, high energy costs and pressure on industrial competitiveness can directly influence investment decisions. Europe has excellent engineering knowledge and a strong industrial base, but we must be careful not to lose ground in the global race for automation, digitalisation and advanced manufacturing.

That is one of the reasons why LightStream is increasingly looking beyond Europe. We want to continue growing in our home market while building partnerships and commercial opportunities in regions where industrial investment is accelerating. For us, the second half of 2026 is therefore about both growth and positioning LightStream and its software platforms for a broader international market.
