As industrial wood processors and energy producers seek to convert organic residues into high-value solid fuels, Czech engineering manufacturer BIOMAC INDUSTRY s.r.o. is expanding its turnkey biomass processing capabilities across European, Asian, and African markets. Based in Uničov, the company engineers, manufactures, installs, and services end-to-end technologies covering raw material receiving, drying, crushing, densification, and automated packaging. Highlighted by its flagship 600,000 tonne-per-year wood chip sorting and handling facility for ŠKO-ENERGO—the energy supplier for the ŠKODA AUTO plant in Mladá Boleslav—BIOMAC manages large-scale industrial bulk handling alongside specialized briquetting and pelleting lines. The firm’s proprietary equipment lineup includes triple-pass drum dryers with two-stage separation, KD110 hammer mills, and piston or hydraulic briquetting presses, complemented by partnerships with KATRES for belt dryers, SALMATEC for pellet presses, ESSEGI for bagging, and ABB for robotic palletizing.
Interview with Saurabh Khurana, Sales Manager at Biomac Industry.
A brief description of the company and its activities.
Saurabh Khurana:BIOMAC INDUSTRY s.r.o. is a Czech engineering company based in Uničov. We design, manufacture, install and service technologies that turn wood-processing residues and other biomass into briquettes and pellets. Our machines are developed, manufactured, assembled and tested in-house, which gives us full control over quality at every stage.
Our deliveries range from individual machines to complete turnkey production plants, covering the whole process from raw material handling to the finished, packed product. Our technologies operate in multiple countries across Europe, and we are now expanding into Asia and Africa.
What are the main areas of activity of the company?
S.K:We cover three stages of the biomass-processing chain. The first is raw material preparation: receiving, storage, dosing, conveying, screening, drying and crushing. The second is densification, meaning briquetting and pelleting. The third is finishing and automation: cooling, screening, weighing, bagging and robotic palletizing.
Each line is designed around the customer’s raw material, required capacity and final product. We also handle installation, commissioning and after-sales service, so customers work with one engineering partner from the first design to long-term operation.
Our involvement does not end with delivery. BIOMAC also provides assembly, commissioning and service support, giving customers a single engineering partner across the implementation of the project.

What’s the news about new products/services?
S.K:One of our current flagship projects is a wood chip sorting plant for ŠKO-ENERGO, the energy supplier to the ŠKODA AUTO plant in Mladá Boleslav, with a total capacity of 600,000 tonnes per year. The plant includes four lines for transport, sorting and crushing of wood chips. Conveyor belts move 500 m³/h from the receiving stations to the storage area, and the storage silos hold 9,000 m³ each with a conveying capacity of 380 m³/h. The project shows that our engineering covers not only densification, but also large-scale biomass handling and storage for industrial energy users.
Alongside such projects, we keep developing our production lines towards higher automation, energy efficiency and flexibility in processing different feedstocks.
What are the ranges of products/services?
S.K:Our portfolio covers every stage of a densification project. For receiving and storage, we supply dumping bins, silos, receiving stations, sorters and a full range of conveyors. For drying, we offer our own triple-pass drum dryers and, for low-temperature applications, belt dryers from the Czech manufacturer KATRES. For preparation, we supply shredders, chippers and our KD110 hammer mills, together with filtration and separation systems.
For briquetting, we supply piston engine based and hydraulic briquetting presses with complete lines for cooling, cutting, weighing and packaging. For pelletizing, we are the exclusive representative of the German manufacturer SALMATEC for pellet presses, and of the Italian manufacturer ESSEGI for pellet packaging machines. At the end of the line, we provide robotic palletizing developed in cooperation with ABB.
Customers can buy individual machines or a complete line. More information is available at www.biomacindustry.cz.

What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
S.K:Europe is our established market, with installations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Ukraine, and a few more covering both briquetting and pelleting. The main driver is the need of sawmills and wood-processing companies to make better use of their residues. In their original form, sawdust and chips are bulky and costly to handle. Densified into briquettes or pellets, they become a product that is easy to store and transport and has real market value.
Projects are also becoming more individual: customers expect a solution built around their own raw material and conditions, not a standard package. This is especially relevant in Asia and Africa, where agricultural residues such as rice husk, bagasse, cotton stalk and straw are available in large volumes but often remain unused. Our technologies can process these materials into briquettes and pellets, which is why we see strong potential for local production of solid fuels in these regions.
What can you tell us about market trends?
S.K:The clearest trend is that biomass residues are increasingly seen as a resource rather than waste. Customers also look beyond a single machine and evaluate the whole line: how preparation, drying, densification and packaging work together, and what the total energy consumption is.
Automation is becoming more important wherever labor is limited or expensive and companies need consistent output. Flexibility matters too, because a line that can process different feedstocks gives operators security when raw material availability changes.

What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
S.K:For us, innovation lies mainly in engineering the complete system. We select and combine preparation, drying, crushing and densification technologies to match the specific feedstock and target product, with energy efficiency as a key design criterion.
Several of our own technologies support this approach. Our triple-pass drum dryer delivers uniform moisture reduction with two-stage separation to reduce emissions. Our KD110 hammer mill integrates a stabilizing chamber and aspiration unit for a uniform particle size. And our robotic palletizing system, developed in cooperation with ABB, automates the end of both briquetting and pelleting lines.
What estimations do you have for the second half of 2026?
S.K:For the rest of 2026 and into 2027, we have two priorities: to keep developing our established European business, and to build a stronger presence in Asia and Africa through long-term partnerships with customers and local partners.
We see the biggest opportunities in projects where customers want an integrated solution for processing their own locally available residues.
