Interview with Corban Blampied, Marketing Manager at Te Pari Products.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Corban Blampied: The main areas of activity for Te Pari are manufacturing livestock handling equipment, including sheep handlers and auto drafters, steel cattle yards and crushes, plus a range of other smart animal management recording devices. All equipment is manufactured in our facility here in Oamaru in a highly automated production line, utilizing robotic and CNC equipment where possible.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
C.B: Te Pari is all about continuous innovation and a recent release to the market has been the dual access flaps on the Racewell Sheep handlers. Based on customer feedback, Te Pari’s R&D team started investigating the issue farmers and ranchers were facing. The outcome has been a dual flap sidewall which allows operators to open these for additional access to the animals for handling tasks such as foot trimming, dosing and or crutching.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
C.B: Te Pari offers a full range of handling products in three main categories:
The sheep handling range includes sheep handlers and auto drafters. Our cattle handling range includes steel cattle yards, cattle crushes, and other cattle husbandry equipment. And the animal management range includes auto-calibrating dosing guns, weighing systems and EID readers.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
C.B: Farmers in the agricultural industry are striving to produce more food while utilizing less land. To achieve this, they are adopting data-driven technologies and precision agriculture techniques. Data collection is essential for making informed management decisions, allowing farmers to optimize resources, increase productivity, and meet the demand for food in a sustainable manner. Using systems such as the Te Pari Auto Drafting Cattle Crush, farmers can automatically weigh and sort cattle into mobs based on their daily weight gain, helping them select their highest performing animals and drafting off the low performs, allowing them to achieve maximum returns from their farms.
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
C.B: Te Pari’s most innovative product offering currently is the Taurus Auto-Drafting Cattle Crush. This system is the world’s only auto drafting cattle crush and is designed to improve efficiency and accuracy when sorting cattle. It’s fully pneumatic powered and is capable of auto weighing and drafting over 300 cattle an hour.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?
C.B: In 2023, the agricultural industry is likely to face continued pressure from government regulations, which will pose challenges for farmers. However, by adopting smarter farming practices and leveraging advanced technologies, farmers will still be able to improve their productivity and profitability. Additionally, as the manufacture of the equipment, we estimate the demand for automated equipment will increase and in turn, we have begun an extension to our manufacturing plant here in Oamaru, NZ. This will allow us to keep up with the demand.
