Interview with Martin Spitznagel, CEO and Founder & Alexander McHaffie, General Manager of Bind-X.
Easy Engineering: Which are the most futuristic products / solutions from your portfolio?
Martin Spitznagel & Alexander McHaffie: The company has developed the most sustainable and efficient dust control product portfolio on the market. Most products are based on a new mode of action (long term solidification) and a natural solidification process called “biomineralisation” where soil bacteria represent the driving engines of the process.
Our biomineralization-based dust control products represent a paradigm shift, in an industry that has seen very limited innovation over the past decades, providing efficient and eco-friendly solutions. They have the potential to revolutionize dust control practices in mining.
Already, in harsh environments, our clients are reaping the benefits of biological solidification by implementing Bind-X products in their sustainable mine tailings management.
E.E: Tell us about the company’s long-term goals / prospects?
M.S & A.M: Our aim is to provide all mines in the world, with the most advanced and cost-effective dust control products and spare them megatonnes of CO2.
As a company we believe that our positive contributions set precedence for the future, and through our clearly proven technology we have begun an impactful revolution in the mining industry whilst paying it forward for the next generations.
E.E: Tell us about product innovation and how does it impact the future?
M.S & A.M: Product innovation lies within the foundation of Bind-X. More than half of the team is working in innovation and product development. We also see this is a key competitive advantage since volatilities in raw material availability and prices are steadily increasing.
Innovation is driving a significant shift in our industry. With a growing focus on sustainability, we have developed cutting-edge alternatives to existing waste streams utilized to meet market demands and contribute to positive change in mining practices.
E.E: What’s moving your company forward?
M.S & A.M: Very straight forward just one measure: the overall (positive) impact that our activities generate at our clients. The maximization of this KPI drives all decision making within the company.
E.E: How do employees shape your company’s future?
M.S & A.M: In the center of Bind-X success is a multi-disciplinary and international team at multiple locations worldwide.
They play a vital role in shaping our company’s future and delivering world leading solutions.
E.E: How does the digital transformation affect your products / business?
M.S & A.M: It will further increase the demand for our products since the growing use of dust control measure sensors (as part of the ongoing digitalization at our clients) will increase the awareness of the topic and the need for best-in-class products
We are pro digital transformation as a key driver for synergies with our product portfolio and we seamlessly integrate into Mining 4.0 best practices.
E.E: Tell us about research and development in your company.
M.S & A.M: As alluded to in Question 4, research and development is the backbone of our company. We are constantly innovating products to meet the needs of established industries.
We pride ourselves in providing innovative solutions that further drive decarbonization and biologization of the mining, agriculture, and infrastructure industries.
E.E: Tell us about the company’s future strategies and how will you adapt to the future.
M.S & A.M: Bind-X has just closed a financing round to further expand internationally, to increase production capacity, to expand our team at three international locations and prepare additional market entries within agriculture, mining, and infrastructure.
E.E: How do you think the future will look like in your field of activity?
M.S & A.M: The growing demand for commodities will prevail but their extraction must take place as responsible and environmentally and community friendly as only possible, no matter where on the globe.
